Lexington public schools lawsuit has discouraged teaching about homosexual families

Nima Eshghi, an attorney for Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), told attendees at the Greater Boston PFLAG annual meeting Sept. 24 that the federal lawsuit by a pair of families against the town of Lexington for including LGBT-themed books in the elementary school curriculum has had a chilling effect on other schools. She said last spring a lesbian couple with a daughter in a Watertown elementary school contacted GLAD to complain that the school had pulled the book And Tango Makes Three, a true story about a pair of male penguins that became mates and raised a baby penguin, from the library shelves in response to parent protests. The couple spoke with the librarian and the school principal and urged them to restore the book to the library, but they were rebuffed.

“Ultimately the school said, ‘We just don’t want to be sued like Lexington.’ And they kept the book out,” said Eshghi. She said the couple chose to pull their daughter out of the school. Eshghi said GLAD did not get involved directly in the situtation, and she does not know which school the couple’s child attended.

Eshghi said opponents of LGBT-inclusive curricula [] have exploited state parental notification laws around sex education by asking schools and courts to apply them to any discussion of LGBT families or people.

“What these parents groups [] are trying to do is take very, very narrow opt-out and parent notification rules that exist at the middle school and high school level purely for sex education, and only to be used in certain narrow circumstances, and they are trying to take that, bring it down into the kindergarten, first and second grade level where kids are not talking about sex. They are talking about who’s in a family.

I see no need for my children to be taught about homosexuals "families" in elementary school.

That say that as if it is a bad thing! Parents better wake up.

a true story about a pair of male penguins that became mates and raised a baby penguin

The male penguins did not "become mates." They bonded with the baby penguin and when it was old enough to go out on its own, they took female mates.

I have no problem with teaching kids about homosexuality as long as they also teach kids about proper handling of firearms. But, gee! The former is done in secret and the latter is prohibited. Go figure!!

They’re doing that because they don’t want to be sued, NOT because it’s immoral.

If I do have children, I’m going to raise them with firearms. I’m just not sure the proper age. BB/airgun at 10, then .22 at 13?

And if they did . . . well . . . yuck.

I’m stocking up on caps (the rolled kind). My grandsons and I had a hard time finding them this weekend.

It all depends on the childs obediance behavior. Does s/he recognize danger, ie. play with matches? If you feel they will not shoot out the street lamps and neighbors lights, not wound animals for the sake of wounding them, then teach him how to use a BB gun, with all the rules that go with gun ownership.

If you see any infractions with the BB gun, hold off on giving him a .22.

I think the chilling effect on gays is the fact that the parents are fighting back and winning. I know I do not want my children indoctrinated about the gay lifestyle. That is exactly what the liberals are doing, this makes young people more susceptible the gay life. You can dress it up anyway ya want to but homosexuality is immoral.

has had a chilling effect on other schools.

May it spread...

This is exactly what traditional parents need to do...fight them at their own game.

These people can read the book to their captive kids at home. That's as far as the evil should get - actually, that's too far.

They are outlawing books with any reference to the traditional mother and father family = despicable and destructive.

What they've gained so far is just one short step to allowing open, in public, on the street parades - as in SF - of nude, demonstrating males - performing their unnatural acts in public for all to see.

We are not too far from have this behavior taught in the schools - in person.

We stop it now, or there will a terrible price for this country to pay.

I only just turned 22 and I don’t have a girlfriend. As of right now, being single, I would like to get married but do not want children. With dating, engagement and marriage, it’s highly likely that my choice will change.

But thank you for the advice. :)

She said the couple chose to pull their daughter out of the school.

Interesting. So much for the lie that "gay" parents don't want their children to be indoctrinated by homosexual-themed "education".
