went to the police to say he had been ‘disturbed’ by it.”

I’m always amazed at the power some people have.
Many things ‘disturb’ me. Many people ‘disturb’ me.
But, go to the police??

Would the police have given similar time to a complaint by somebody who had been "disturbed" by the rantings of a Muslim cleric?

This is a corner stone of facists governments, and the British are rapidly turning into facists. Anyone who embraces hate crimes is allowing this sort of thing to happen. Anyone who has a grivence against their neighbor can then run to the police and turn the neighbor in for a “hate crime”, or a crime against the state. It is already happening in Britain and here in the US. We need to put a stop to this nonsense NOW.

“I’m always amazed at the power some people have.” I’m with you, it’s truly amazing. It’s like someone behind the curtain sprinkled the “power” dust on chosen groups of people such that for example, THEY get to decide who is and who is not a racist, or a homophope and now, an islamaphobe. We lose the freedom of even so much as defining who we are and what we are truly about along with the freedom to speak our truth and sadly I fear, we’ll lose the right to decide to whom we will and will not speak when told that failing to “engage” a Muslim or a person of another one of the chosen, in conversation is discriminatory. For my part? I’m running for the hills!

Say goodbye to freedom of speech. It had a pretty good run. We’re returning to an aristocratic system of government, where everything will be mandated for us by a self-appointed elite.
