Rush Limbaugh Earns Big Money From Senate Letter Chastising Him

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Rush Limbaugh

WASHINGTON — A letter sent to Rush Limbaugh's boss demanding he be chastised for comments he made on the air about "phony soldiers" is now on the auction block, and the latest bid is a cool $41,400.

One hundred percent of the money raised from the eBay auction will go to educate the children of Marines and law enforcement officers who died while on duty, the auction says.

Bids will continue until Friday for the letter signed by 41 Democratic senators and sent on Oct. 2 to Mark P. Mays, president of Clear Channel, the parent company of the conservative talk show host's radio broadcast. The winning bidder will get the letter, the "Halliburton briefcase in which this letter is secured 24 hours a day;" a letter of thanks from Limbaugh and a picture of the talkmeister announcing the auction at a speech in Philadelphia delivered last Thursday.

"This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers," reads the eBay announcement.

As of midday Sunday, 95 bids by 36 bidders had been made on the letter, whose opening bid price was $100.

Playing up the controversy over comments Limbaugh made last month in which he used the term "phony soldiers," seemingly to describe U.S. troops opposed to the Iraq war, Limbaugh told his audience last week

Can’t say about Feinstein, but I bet she is on it, too.

Your guess is absolutely correct, she is on it. I sent both her and Boxer scathing emails, not that it did any good but I got it off my chest. By scathing I mean not very nice:).

Here is my email to my phony Senator:

Senator Harkin,

The letter to Mark Mays of Clear Channel Communications that you signed last week is being auctioned off on eBay. The proceeds of the sale will be donated to a Marines charity. Will you match the final auction price and make a personal donation to show your "support" of our troops, since you have no trouble showing your "support" by signing a clearly bogus and dishonest letter.

Iowans deserve better from you senator. With your background I am surprised you jumped into any discussion of phony soldiers.
Tell us again about those combat missions you flew in Vietnam. Ha!

That’s a great idea!!! If all the idiots that signed that piece of paper, all next week, got emails and phone calls calling them phony Americans or some such, I wonder if they would be shamed into matching the donation?

I can dream, can’t I?

Here is moron Salazar's full canned response that his office sent to me twice.
Bolding is mine to highlight Salazar's lies and hypocrisy.

Dear (TigersEye):

Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate hearing from you.

Rush Limbaugh's insinuation that members of the military who question the Iraq war are "phony soldiers" serves as another example of how the national debate over our Iraq policy has been largely characterized by overheated rhetoric. In response to this, I joined 40 other Senators in signing a letter to Mark Mays, the CEO of Clear Channel, which syndicates Mr. Limbaugh's show, expressing my disappointment in his comments.

I believe a vigorous and substantive dialogue on Iraq is warranted, especially given its ramifications at home and abroad. However, impugning the views and the service of our troops only diminishes the chances of achieving a consensus on how we should move forward in Iraq which is what we ultimately need to do.

It is past time that we leave our troops out of the politics surrounding this important issue. They deserve nothing less than the thanks and support of a grateful nation. I apply this standard consistently to conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats. I spoke out against MoveOn.org's personal attack on General David Petraeus, I have registered my objections to Mr. Limbaugh's remarks, and I will continue to defend the honor of our men and women in uniform against spurious rhetorical attacks as long as I am in the Senate.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Sincerely,
Ken Salazar
United States Senator

I wish I had saved my first letter to him but I used the e-mail program on his website and didn't copy it for myself. Salazar is truly a leftist tard and has supported every possible way to help illegal aliens as well.

Wasn’t Ken Salazar as a candidate, the one who made promises that he was a different, more fair Democrat who would work for inclusion of all parties.

So far Ken has done nothing but show that he is nothing more than a two faced hypocrite.

Colorado you elected this run of the mill, muck diver for the Democrat sewer.

Voters must have been on a Rocky Mountain High.

I didn’t vote for him and he is more than a two faced hypocrite. He’s a devoted Marxist communist judging by his votes and this.

You’re lucky. Both of my Michigan Senators signed it. Hope we can use it to oust them, starting with Levin next year!

I posted my response here. If I send a third one it will probably be to rub in Rush's E-Bay auction and challenge Salazar to match the final bid. ; )

It is obvious that neither you nor your staff took the time to view and hear ten minutes worth of video of Rush Limbaugh's remarks. That makes you lazy and incompetent. Unfit for office. I will be glad to volunteer my efforts to unseat you in the next election to whoever wants it.

Where is your condemnation of Sen. Kerry's remarks that our troops "terrorize women and children in the dead of night."?

Where is your condemnation of Cong. John Murtha who accused U.S. Marines of "cold blooded murder" before they had even been charged? Now they have all been exonerated.

Where is your condemnation of Sen. Dick Durbin for equating our servicemen in Cuba with "Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot."?

You are not only lazy and incompetent you are a hypocrite. Private citizens exercising their 1st Amendment rights are not open to your condemnation in your official capacity as a Senator. Stick within the bounds of the Constitution.

Thank you! If my phony senator Harkin responds I am going to use some of this.

Every Freeper who has a senator that signed this letter should write and demand they match the end auction price with a donation.

BTW, you should ask the senator to send you a paper copy of his response. Let him know you are going to auction it on eBay.

With Harkin’s past you can really hammer him. I went easy on Salazar by only listing three outrageous things Dem Senators and Congressmen have said. That litany could go on for a while. Kennedy, Patty Murray, Reid himself with his “this war is lost” garbage. It could be a long list of seditious quotes.

I wish a high roller would come in and bid a million bucks or more as a donation to these causes.

Actually, it would take two high rollers. If there's just one, the final bid price would be only one bid increment ($100) over the next highest bid. Thus, if someone bids $50,000 and someone tops that bid with a $1M bid, the final price would be $50,100. Still, this outcome is a strong possibility, as is the possibility of libs posting phony astronomical bids (in spite of the vetting process) simply to screw up the process and make Rush look bad.

Thanks for your kind words.

How would I ask for that?

"Honorable Senator Saladbar,
Would you please send me a signed hard copy of your hypocritical lies and display of phony patriotism so I could make a buck or two to offset the onerous taxes I pay to support the illegal aliens you work tirelessly for?"

Thank you, a legal constituent of yours, TigersEye

Of course Rush will. But "shame" is not a part of the Reid machine make up. Think about it. They could not do what they have done and will continue to do if "shame" was a part of their beings.

Seriously my friend. THEY HAVE NO SHAME!

And unfortunately for the Republic there are some on the "right" side of the aisle that don't either.

LOL. That’s great.

Or you could tell him that you plan on donating the proceeds of the eBay sale to his opponent. Then ask him if he would make an in kind contribution to Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.
