More revisionist nonsense. Churchill was the 20th Century’s greatest leader, followed closely by Reagan. If he gave an order that adversely affected British Jews, it would not have been because they were British Jews. None of the occupants of #10 Downing Street since Churchill could have done better — and that includes Thatcher, who is probably the 3rd greatest leader of the 20th Century.
Good post and accurate. Churchill, FDR, Eisenhower, and Montgomery made many many hard decisions that they knew would result in the death of their countrymen but at the same time save many more than were lost due to their decision.
The Brits had broken the German Code via the capture of the enigma machine from a sub and this combined with brilliant Brits at the Code Breaking center at Betchly Green in Berkshire let the allies know what the Germans were doing. The Germans planned a massive raid on Croydon. Churchill knew this and did not inform the RAF. The reason he did not inform the RAF is they would have put up many fighters and the Germans would then know their code was broken. D-Day was in the near future and much more important than the lives of the people in Croydon.
Those were hard decisions made by great men. They were the right decisions.
Sing it, brother!
