I think it was Shay’s rebellion that was the downfall of this nation.

Here's a good link on why you are correct...

The short version is that Shay's Rebellion led many founders to support a far stronger central government than they had previous to the rebellion.

The Whiskey Rebellion made things a lot worse.

By the time Lincoln took office, things were already pretty bad. However Lincoln did make them much worse. Fast forward to FDR, and the notion that the US calls itself a rebpublic borders on the hillarious...
