Well, it appears to have stalled at $40,200 over night. Guess people had to sleep on it. Drudge even put up a link to ebay after it hit 40 G's. Bumping for the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation charity!

Frankly, I am very surprised that it is $42,200 this early. On eBay serious bidders place their bid at the last moment.

The theory being “Why show your hand before you have to?”

I know people who try to time their last bid and confirmation just a second or two before time runs out. That way if your bid is the highest (It may not be because the current high bidder may have actually bid higher than the posted bid. They only post a bid price that was higher —by the required increment— than the previous bid.) your competition does not have time to respond.
