While Anne got it started, kind of, I would not really blame her for that. It is more of an unintended and unknowable consequence. I would blame those at work, who are undoubtedly uber-libs that would like to cut your throat because of your views, and utterly regardless of the quality of your work (how's that for the vaunted liberal compassion for their fellow human beings???).

Bottom line-CYA, and do so in a way that makes the libs look like a bunch of stupid little children tattling on you. Show your boss that you are the mature one, and that politics have nothing whatsoever to do with your performance at work. I'd perhaps even put in some extra time - be there before the boss, take short lunches, leave after the boss. It'll be good not only for resolving this idiocy, but also for promotions/raises in the future.
