A new poll shows former Vice President Al Gores entry into the Democratic presidential race might not have such a large impact on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) after all. In fact, it might help to further solidify her frontrunner status.
The InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion poll, which was conducted nationwide Friday evening after Gore was named a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on climate change, shows Gore taking heavily from undecided voters and the other candidates not Clinton.
Clinton registers 43 percent in the Gore-inclusive poll, which is a similar number to her take in polls without Gore. And her 20-30 point lead holds steady, as Gore takes second place with 15 percent, while Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) and former Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) take 13 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
Gore has not ruled out a presidential bid but has not provided a strong indication that he will run either.
The bottom line is that a Gore candidacy, at this stage, seems unlikely given the fact that the best thing that can happen to Hillary Clinton is another man, even one with a Nobel Prize, getting into the race and dividing up the anti-Clinton vote rather than taking votes away from her, InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery said in the Southern Political Report.
Towery noted that Gore largely took from the other male candidates when he was included in much of the early polling on the race as well, and that the Nobel Prize has not changed that.
Wishful thinking? Personally, I think he would take a lot of votes from the pant suit.
Go Gore!
I do to but don’t think he’ll run. Another defear would be too much for his fragile ego.
I recall it being said that the majority of undecided voters don’t make up their minds until the last three weeks.
Hmmm...and if we can get Ron Paul to switch parties (’cause there ain’t no way he’s going on the Republican ticket) her head will explode like that old Scanners movie!!
Run, AL, RUN!!!! :-)
Nice to see someone at FR who is quick with more than a keyboard.
Gore would be harder to beat than Hillary, of course my dream is that he run on an independent ticket. He will not be the green party nominee.
If Gore decides to run he will destroy Hillary Clinton, but it will be more difficult to beat him in the general elections than beating Hillary Clinton. Republicans and Conservatives should not wish for Gore entering the race.
I doubt that Gore will enter. I am sure that upon his nobel ‘peace’ prize victory, slick willie called him to offer shallow congrats, and to ‘remind’ gore that he (bill) had already promised the presidency to hillary after the chubby intern debacle. In return for gore’s compliance there may be a spot in the next clinton administration such as un ambassador(?) In return for non-compliance, there may be a spot for gore in Ft Marcy park.
More bs put out by Clinton and Company.
Even if he got elected I would be happier than punch to have Gore in the race. Hillary is dangerous. Gore would be a pain in the a**, but he’d be much less dangerous and definitely more entertaining. Just think of the possibilities....
Excellent!!
Rubbish!
Lost my faith in pre-election polls years ago.
Another attempt to convince us that the election of Hellery is inevitable.
Who are they kidding? Gore’s candidancy would definitely hurt Hilllary. That’s why he will not run. He doesn’t have the guts to oppose either of the Clintons. Never did, never will. The Clintons tell Al to jump, and he asked “how high?” He will not get into the race.
