Conservatives claim to be in favor of stable families, small businesses, hard work, private schools, investment and homeownership. So why in the world are so many on the right attacking the family of Graeme Frost?
Frost is the 12-year-old from Baltimore who delivered the Democrats' reply to a radio address by President Bush in September. The seventh-grader pleaded -- in vain, it turned out -- that the president not veto Congress's $35 billion expansion of the children's health care program known as SCHIP. A car crash in December 2004 left two of Halsey and Bonnie Frost's children comatose, Graeme with a brain stem injury and Gemma, his sister, with a cranial fracture.
The kids were treated, thanks to SCHIP. The Frosts spoke out so the public would know that real people lie behind the acronym.
Their reward was to be trashed on right-wing blogs and talk radio as if they were multimillionaires ripping off the system. The assault on the Frosts apparently began on the Free Republic Web site and quickly spread to National Review Online, Power Line and Michelle Malkin's blog, as well as Rush Limbaugh's radio show.
And of what were the Frosts guilty? Well, they own their own home, which they bought for $55,000 in 1990 and which is now worth about $260,000; they invested in a commercial property, valued at $160,000; Halsey Frost, a self-employed woodworker, once owned a small business that was dissolved in 1999; and Graeme attends a private school on scholarship. I rely here on facts reported this week in the Baltimore Sun and the New York Times, both of which set straight the more outlandish claims made by the Frosts' attackers.
The right is unapologetic. "The Democrats chose to outsource their airtime to a Seventh Grader...

Have at it.
The author's a baby.
Did someone attack the kid?
I thought not, but his worthless parents are another story ~ 3 nice motorvehicles, 2 drivers ~ makes me wonder if he still writes off his SUV as a business expense.
These are NOT real people. They're Democrats who use their children as propaganda fodder. They're not unlike the hostage takers who use children as shields.
**Did someone attack the kid?**
Don’t think so. The only “”Attacks”” that I’ve heard have been against the parents and the DEMOCRAT PARTY for turning the poor kid into a “USEFUL IDIOT”, the ones STALIN was so fond of!!
HEY MEDIA MATTERS ... TRY Getting it right... ONCE!!
Ping.
Please forward to whomever you think may find this amusing.
I will say this for the kid, he posesses superior intellect to any of the Democrat members of Congress.
Meanie? What kind of girly man is EJ that his best shot is “Meanie” in his headline? Wonder if he had to get a note from his mother for the WaPo editotrs to allow that headline?
That supposed kid is a lying little pygmy and the spelling of his name makes my eyes go crossed .
At 12 years old, the kid is old enough to know truth from lies, right from wrong. He wasn’t attacked, but maybe he should be for allowing himself to be used by Evil People.
And what about the accident? Did anyone research how that happened? Was liquor involved? Or a cell phone? Who was at fault, the parent or the other driver?
We have 2 kids each going to a private school with $20,000 per year tuition, and they are on the public dole for medical expenses because they can’t afford to pay their own expenses. Give me a BREAK. I sincerely hope President Bush doesn’t back down on this.
That would be E. J. Dionne Jr., and he's an a$$hat of the first order.
Because at some point MOST of us grew up and realized that if you make babies, YOU are responsible for taking care of them, not your parents, or uncles, or the neighbors, or Uncle Sam; YOU! That is if you truly love them, and they're not just accessories to your "lifestyle".
I really hate that these people are pushing me into meanness. But it has reached a point where you just have to stop tolerating the opinions of people who refuse to take personal responsibility for their lives. And those who prey on them and would use them to gain power need to called to account.
A blatant lie.
The treatment was PAID FOR, thanks to SCHIP.
Here’s another blatant lie from the article:
“The real issue here is whether uninsured families with earnings similar to the Frosts’ need government help to buy health coverage. With the average family policy in employer-provided plans now costing more than $12,000 annually — the price is usually higher for families trying to buy it on their own — the answer is plainly yes.”
Thanks so much for the ping!
I fail to see the connection for treatment that happened 3 years ago to the proposed expansion. I honestly think this “person” is attempting to correlate that which is not connected.
The kid would have got his treatment without the expansion, but liberal Democrats don’t want people to think that. They want people to think that big bad Republicans would have prevented treatment 3 years ago and that simply is a fallacy.
EXPANSION, Mr. Dionne, has been vetoed and it has NOTHING to do with the kid. He got his treatment already. There is no connection between him and the proposed expansion. NONE.
That’s exactly right.
Check out this NYT opinion piece too (this one is a four star barf alert, lol).
Sliming Graeme Frost
by Paul Krugman
From the article:
“Frosts bought their house for $55,000 in 1990 when the neighborhood was rundown and considered dangerous) and because Mr. Frost owns a business (it was dissolved in 1999).”
Frost bought this property before he was married, on his own. As far as it being run-down, I don’t know, but I do know that as far back as the ‘80’s Butchers Hill (the Frost’s neighborhood) was in the process of being gentrified. Also, I didn’t realize that Mr. Frost had dissolved his business in 1999.????? I thought news reports had stated that he was self-employed and had employed his wife. Is the story now being changed?
EJ Dionne is a bowtied little nerd (only true rebels wear bow ties!). His liberalism empowers the Nerd’s Revenge when he calls conservatives “meanies”.
Imagine little EJ in the schoolyard fifty years ago.
;^)
That's even better.
Mr Dionne must have missed the part where the article says that the parents work "part time". Why a 41 year old man with 4 kids doesn't get up and bust his butt for a MINIMUM of 40hrs per week escapes me. But because he only feels like working "part time" he expects others to pay for his wife crashing their SUV into a tree and hurting their kids.
