I received a catalog from Mrs. Fields in the mail last week and it looks like they dropped Christmas because they want to focus on large business orders that you can give out to clients, hence no mention of any specific holiday.

So? They could accomplish that by having "generic" in addition to, rather than instead of, Christmas items

Or they could fix it by having another catalog later with all the Christmas stuff, which apparently was the plan all along, hence the thing indicating Christmas stuff will start being available on Nov 1. I remember when selling Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving was one of the great travesties of retail, now apparently selling non-Christmas stuff in early October is evil. Protesting Christians really need to make up their mind, they’re putting stores in a no win situation, and once you convince the retail sector they can’t make you happy they lose any reason to try.

She sold the business years ago after running it into the ground.

No different than Famous Amos. Just a name, the founder doing something else.

This had to be some long range planning on their part.

It would be interesting see, who she has contributed to politically.

This is even more stupid than the Dixie Chick Marketing Strategy where they only poed about 50% of their potential fans/customers.

Counting the C&E Christians, she is running the chance of poing way over 50% of her potential market.

Doesn’t matter if she’s Jewish or agnostic;

NEW YORK (CNNfn) — Debbie Fields’ story hasn’t always been a pretty one.
She started the cookie business that bears her name even when her husband and parents frankly called it a stupid idea.
And after Mrs. Field’s Cookies became a ubiquitous success, she lost the company due to bad business decisions.
The business grew steadily, but Fields made the classic entrepreneurial mistake of overexpansion. When the recession hit in the late 1980s, the debt on the company became unbearable.
“The only thing I could do was swap my ownership for a reduction of debt. I didn’t have a choice,” she recalled. “It was like parting with my family, like giving [your baby] up for adoption.”

She hasn’t owned the business for years.

Mrs. Fields has apparently heard the complaints. They are claiming products are on the way. A pic of a cookie with Merry Christmas decorated in icing is on their home page.

A page like that isn't done in a heart beat. I think too many people here are looking for signs of a War on CHristmas and are jumping the gun. IT ISN'T EVEN FRICKIN' HALLOWEEN YET!

Just spoke with someone in customer service at 800 number listed by the name of Alice. She says this posting is NOT TRUE and that their Christmas catalog comes out after Nov 1 when they finish with Halloween and they have quite an assortment of items for Christmas. Everyone else might want to check out and let the rest of us know.

” the supervisor told Diane that they do not offer anything with Merry Christmas because they don’t want to offend anyone. “

Ah, sure ...

The company was apparently hit quickly and hard. Google mrsfields.com and look at the cache of the site - it was setup for Halloween but they are apparently shorting the October holiday in favor of rescuing future sales.

Just spoke with AFA after I talked with Diane at Ms. Fields. The lady on the phone stumbled through an explanation about well, maybe they changed their mind or something. She transferred me to someone who handles media relations and, of course, on Friday afternoon talked to mailbox. Left message of my conversation with Ms. Fields and suggested they post updated statement. Now, they may have changed it after AFA talked to them - don’t know. But let’s have all the story like, “After conversation with x, we have discovered that they will not.... It is our recommendation that you consider other options for your Christmas cookies!

But what’s it tell you when they had all the Christmas stuff already to put on the website?! AFA went off for no reason, again. They were in Halloween/ fall sales mode because it is October after all, then AFA decided they hadn’t had a press release in too long and put out this so Mrs Fields rolled out their Christmas stuff early to shut up the protest, a protest that never should have happened in the first place. AFA is a bunch of freaking morons, protest for profit goobers that have turned anger into a profession.

Call me skeptical, but how do we know that the “revised” web page is from a previous year’s offerings that were hurridly thrown up on the website after the complaints started rolling in.

I’m with you. I posted the original link to the Christmas stuff this morning. If you look at the google cach of the site, it is from yesterday and was setup for halloween. The new studio photos of arranged gift packages seem to bolster the position of the company that they simply hadn’t rolled out the Christmas stuff yet.

It’s actually pretty likely they were staging this stuff already. Big changes on an order website take time, smart IT people put everything up in a temp location to test the pages and links and everything, then cut over to the live site at the appropriate time. Digging up the old stuff is too hazardous, might have obvious dates, plus last year’s prices and products. AFA goes off halfcocked all the time, this is exactly their style, whenever they see a product offering that has a snowflake on the package but nothing that says Christmas they start a protest boycott. I remember last year’s WalMart page of “obvious” Christmas stuff that included Jeff Gordon’s driving school. The AFA being wrong is pretty much always the most likely answer, because they’re wrong a lot.

Should be an Ann Coulter type rule on Mrs. Fields. She’s a real looker.
