Wasn’t Reagan once pro choice? He remarried and had problems with his kids.

And he started out as an FDR Democrat but he repented and converted.
And, most importantly, Reagan ran as a pro-life candidate, appealing to Democrats with a moral conscience.
The marital woes of Giuliani are a little more recent. No one ever saw Jane Wyman weeping on television after hearing about her split from the media.
But Giuliani's marriages alone would not necessarily disqalify him if he saw the need for constitutional and legal protection of innocent life.
It is a question of political realism as well. He will split the party over this and make a Democratic victory more likely. That's dumb. George Bush, Sr. bit the bullet in '80 and signed on to Reagan's pro-life platform.
Reagan's genius was putting together the coalition that made conservative Republican victories possible. The pro-life, evangelical and Catholic constituencies were an integral part of that.
Breaking that up is just stupid. There is no logical, rational, or realistic reason to do that.
Reagan became a passionate pro-lifer. Giuliani still supports taxpayer-funding of abortion.
You should spend some time going through the bugzapper thread, where some freepers lost their posting privileges when they posted stuff like that, tearing down good conservatives.
Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
