I find myself in the odd position of supporting Columbia’s position in one respect: What is wrong with waiting to comply until after a warrant is issued? That is the legal way for the police to obtain this.

I bet whomever hung the rope was either a minority or female, or a member of some other protected group. If it was a white male who did it they’d have handed it over in a heartbeat.

And when they actually prove out that she hung the noose there herself, the argument will change to “ it was a political statement” to bring attention racist white people, so it doesn’t matter who put it there, racism is the larger issue that must be addressed.

In reading about this situation at Columbia, a part of me wants to say: "Hey, its' all about free speech" even though the person(s) who put the noose on the door did not have the b*lls to stand around and declare that. The part of me that says that understands the power of the noose as a racist symbol - but that same power (reaction) is what I felt when Columbia said it was "free speech" when they brought the Moosehead from Iran here and gave him a platform. Hanging a noose on a door is not against the law but I don't condone it. Likewise, inviting ding-a-ling here wasn't against the law but shouldn't have been condoned either.

For me, this would be the the most analogous visceral reaction I could come up with to describe to a Lib why Columbia screwed up with the invite and it was wrong to me.
