Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.
Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Danny Deutsch's CNBC show "The Big Idea."
In response to a question from Deutsch asking Coulter if "it would be better if we were all Christian," the controversial columnist responded: "Yes."
"We should all be Christian?" Deutsch repeated.
"Yes," Coulter responded, asking Deutsch, who is Jewish, if he would like to "come to church with me."
Deutsch, pressing Coulter further, asked, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" She responded: "Yeah."
Coulter deflected Deutsch's assertion that her comments were anti-Semitic, matter-of-factly telling the show's obviously upset host, "That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews."

I take no offense in what you have said, nor for that matter in what Ann Coulter said. I do think that she could have phrased it in a less inflamatory way that would be less likely to be used as a leftist Christian hating sound bite. But she aims to be out there. That is her ‘brand.’
I find the term “Talmudic Jew” a pejorative dig. The Talmud is the discussion by learned Rabbis of the Oral part of the Old Testament spoken to Moses at Sinai. Conservative and Orthodox Jews consider the Talmud as part and parcel of the Old Testament, ie divinely inspired.

What did she say that was so wrong? Time is short and someone in the public eye has to say it.
Unfortunately many on this thread fail to realize one of the cardinal rules of politico/religious discourse these days.
That being we need to be tolerant of all religions and those that want to practice it, even those willing to exterminate those that don't agree with them by slicing their heads off or blowing up their buildings.
Tolerance...that's the keyword.
Unless, of course, one chooses to profess or practice their Christianity.
That's where tolerance takes a vacation.
It's always nice to start a conversation by accusing someone of being a liar.
I am God’s chosen person, and you are not. Now, I’m not saying I’m better or anything here just that God chose me and not you. Really, no implication here… Other references talk about holding Jews to a higher standard because non Jews don’t have the Talmud to guide them. How gracious of the jews to assert this. The jews are so wise and their religion so much more efficient that the bar is raised for them, or how about, the non jews are so misguided and their religions lacking that the bar should be lowered for them… Jews adjudge themselves better….Perhaps you should embrace the idea that Judaism is good, perhaps, better than other religions. The most nobels laureats per population. The greatest scientists. The only thriving democracy in the mid east. Survivors against f odds, diasporas the holocaust. Countless medical and scientific advancements attributable to jews. God’s gift to the people of the earth? I’m not a jew, but I’ll not deny the good which the jews do nor the greatness that so few have acheived.

Jews are held to different standards than non-Jews, that’s not a fact of superiority as you assert, simply different Commandments.
Thank you for not denying the good Jews (it’s a capital J, Jews, not jews) have done on occasion.

Are you drunk? I didn’t. YOU did. I was defending Coulter in that I don’t find her comments alarming or cause for concern. Seems like you jumped to a whole bunch of wrong conclusions because you didn’t understand what I wrote. Or else you are confusing me with someone else.

If I were on TV and stated that America would be a better place if Evangelicals (right wing) became Unitarians, I think Evangelicals would be offended.
The more accurate comparison, if I advocated Christians become Jews, to make America a better place.

If you think about the thread, most posters miss the issue.
It's not that Christians evangelize, that's a matter of personal belief, which is what this nation protect.
It's Anns suggestion, based on her belief, that America would be a better country if it's Jews became Christians.
That's not only outrageous, it's un-American.
I should note that imo Ann didn't mean it that way, she's a loose cannon who earns a living by crossing the line. That's what she did, she'll benefit from it, but I think it's important that Republicans differentiate themselves from her. The Republican Party isn't a Christian Party, and if she went to NY for the convention and doesn't realize there were Jews living there, and even at the convention, she needs a reality check.

I don't think she's ever claimed to be Jewish. She hung out at the Kaballah Center in LA. I don't know how to characterize it, a cult, a different belief system, they sell magic strings and cards. Doesn't really matter, while they base their beliefs on a Jewish text, to what extent I don't know, it's not a Jewish denomination and you don't have to be Jewish to participate. To my knowledge, they don't claim any affiliation to Judaism.
