Yes, the arabs did that a lot in Algeria to Apostates. Or who they considered apostates for “corrupting” Islam. They weren’t Islamic enough for the Arab fundamentalists who took over the country.

It seems they were considered / believed to be Muslims who were French sympathizers.

Also was reported to have happened a fair amount in the RVN conflict of late.
