The fact that American Multi-National Corporations are shipping jobs offshore instead of completely foreign corporations doesn’t make it any less the President’s job to protect American Workers. And the fact that big Corporations give money to the parties is completely irrelevant to a principled leader. His job is to protect the American People not the GOP’s bank account.

Old or not, glide625 was predicting Chinese ground forces in South America and I was saying they are already here to some degree.

You make the assumption that everyone agrees with you that Duncan is the best qualified.

He’s an awesome Representative, a true Conservative, and is eminently qualified by his experience, education, and values.

That doesn’t make him the best qualified in everyone’s mind.

When you have a conservative radio show with 5 million listeners, he probably gets a feel for what the base thinks more than the average pundit like Will and David Brooks. And considering in many polls the undecided voters rival the frontrunners, there is little doubt that no one has “taken off” yet. Top that off with folks like Dobson and Viguerie and Newt and Coulter and Pissant unhappy with the top tier....

Did you forget that he talks to conservatives day in and day out on his program? I would guess he has a fairly good grasp of what conservatives are thinking.

Well, no. He's in a position to judge what the people who call his show has to say. It's not even a fair sampling of his listeners, much less indicative of the mood of the vast majority of people who don't even listen to his show.

In that sense, Mr. Reagan's experience is no more indicative of normal, conservative voters than is an FR poll. It's a self-selecting crew.

At least he's in a position to judge their thinking a lot better than you are.

I made no comment as to what "conservatives" are thinking. I was simply pointing out that Mr. Reagan has no actual standing to make large claims about a group that has no fixed definition, much less a fixed set of criteria by which to judge candidates. If nothing else, you can look at FR, with its posters offering passionate support/denigration of various candidates, which suggests that Mr. Reagan is not accurate when he says none of the candidates can fire up conservative voters.

My own opinion is that "the majority of conservatives" isn't even paying attention to the race -- and if I'm right, Mr. Reagan is left with no point at all.

He's not necessarily wrong, but it's lazy, lazy punditry. By claiming (without evidence) to speak for "the majority of conservatives," he absolves himself of the need to actually make a case for the personal opinions he's really passing along. Lazy.

I guess by your standard you find Clarence Thomas extemely boring and hard to listen to as well. He uses the same verbal pauses to formulate his thoughts. If that’s all you hear when you listen to Fred, no wonder you miss the important things he’s saying.

Check this out for some information on Hunter. To say he hasn’t done anything is not accurate at all.

I don’t find Fred or Thomas boring. But I also don’t find Hunter’s crystal clear, aggressive rhetoric to be lacking either.

“Not really. the reason there is a pretty big muddle with no one polling over 25% is that none of the frontrunners have excited the base. Soon to change.”

You hit on the truth there, pissant. None of the “top tier” inspire to the point of being able to beat the democrats. With all their money and press, they can’t get to 30% in the polls.

Soon to change? I believe you are right. Right now his support is hard core. Eventually, he will pick up enough new supporters to gain some momentum. Momentum will garner media attention, more people see and like Hunter and join the team. Once this train gets full steam, Hunter will pass all the others. Simple, huh?:)

I think what we see in the polling right now reflects the positions of politically active folks who are hunting around for whichever candidate achieves the proper balance between ideological purity and practical electability.

Yup. Give me the most rightward candidate that can win.

The GOP base will have a damn celebration when Hunter gets top tier. Unfortunately, too many are waiting around and not doing the lifting necessary, so we will have to do it for them.
