‘she apologizes aloud even when no one else is in the car. “Sorry, Dad,” she says, looking up at the camera mounted on the rear-view mirror.’
I wonder how long it will be before she has an accident while apologising to big brother in the mirror?
Thank goodness they never had these when I was a teen.
I'm all for "trust but verify", but I think this goes too far. We've done the occasional unannounced spot check and thus far, our oldest has always been where she says she is. I've set the expectation that my kids should be forthcoming with me because it's the right thing to do, not because I'm watching their every move.
17 is still a minor. So, I suppose that parents still have the ability to usurp privacy.
But, I wouldn't like the idea of Mom+Dad being in the car with me all the time, either.
Frankly, I think that if I trust me kid to drive a car, then I'll let him drive it. Videotaping him fiddling with an IPod or a cellphone isn't going to fix anything when he runs into a tree. It only takes one screwup.
If you don’t trust your kids, don’t give them the car keys.
