I also think Fred did well. Others did well also, but to me it is what they say about the issues, and their records that are important to me. It was obvious that Mitt had prepared his hit on Fred, and Fred did great with his comeback. But you will notice that Fred’s comeback was nicer than Mitts hit. Some have said that Fred did not smile enough. I think he smiled when things were funny, and was serious during questions. This tells me he cares and considers problems facing our country ARE serious. I loved Fred’s comeback to Chris Matthews after his “gotcha question”. I believe the American people will feel that Fred did well.
I don’t care about Norquist one way or another, but I do care about presidents raising my taxes.

The media has a liberal bias which affects their view of Fred. They also have a bias towards the culture of Red States. That is the deal in this Republican nomination. Rudy is as blue state as one can get. So is Romney, even though his religion and background have some Red State background, his political successes were in the BLUEST State that has ever been or ever will be. MSM is giving Fred the double whammy, one because he has a claim on a some conservative views, and when they compare him to the other Republican frontrunners who made their bones in the east coast elite establishment, the fact he does not mix as well as Rudy and Mitt do with those effete elite east coast MSM liberal snobs, is held against him.
well stated, I agree. I read many of the posts on the live debate thread. It sounded as though Fred didn't do well -- lots of negative comments. Last night, when I finally saw the debate, I was surprised. I thought Fred did much better than what many on the live thread stated. From what I read, the left is most vicious in their attacks on Fred. That tells me they fear him the most. I believe Fred will ignite the base and steamroll over Hillary.

We’ve known for years now that Chris Matthews is missing alot of beneficial human qualities and in the absence of such qualities he has substituted qualities more fitting of a jackal.
As I told Tony Snow nearly ten years ago when he hosted Fox News Sunday “If you can’t find an important democrat to come on your show because they want to avoid an interview with you, then pick any of the numerous mean hateful democrats and put them on with you. Your viewing public will hate such democrats and that will compel the ones that decided to avoid you to call you up with a change in mind.”
In other words, Chris Matthews is good for Fred Thompson because Matthews is offensive and an extreme egoist.
Did you notice how easily and how gentlemanly FDT turned the tables on Matthew? Even to the point of getting laughter from the audience.
Matthews is no match for FDT.
Overall FDT did fine. I am glad he did not do extremely well because then all his future debates and appearances would have unrealistic expectations.
He will start slow and pick up momentum. I believe as those who claim to know him that “Fred Grows On You”.
I have to agree. Either I watched a different debate than they did, or these people are gunning for Fred Thompson. If he's just too old, lazy, demented, and politically inept, why are they spending so much time trying to convince the American people there is nothing to his candidacy? The sheer volume of criticism seems way over the top and I'm more convinced than ever that those of us who support Fred are on a train gaining momentum.
