Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory said today he cant believe voters are willing to set the bar so low by returning Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty to office for four years.
Its as if the people are saying its okay to have a low standard of behaviour for politicians, Tory said on radio station CFRB this morning as he tried to explain how his campaign got derailed and how the Liberals dishonesty trumped his effort to change the tone of politics in Ontario.
Two polls released yesterday show the Liberals walking towards a majority government and his PC Party finishing a weak second.
People are going to have to decide: Do they want a higher standard of integrity in politics or not? Do they want a higher standard of honesty or not? If they want politics as usual, which they say everyday they dont, then they should be prepared to vote for a different standard, Tory said.

John Tory was the guy who presided over the federal Progressive Conservatives' wipeout in 1993. Now he appears set to repeat history by taking the Ontario Progressive Conservatives to a landslide loss at the hands of the provincial Liberals. When you move Left, true conservatives stay home. And Tory's blaming the voters makes him look like an ass. I hope he loses his Don West Valley riding. The Ontario's PC Red Tories thought that aping Ontario Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty would be their royal road to power. Instead, its their fast expressway to political ruin. It couldn't happen to a more deserving party.

The strange thing is its the Liberals that are pledging a tax cut! Tory had the opportunity to run on a Mike Harris tax cutting and government reform platform, holding the Liberals accountable for their broken promises. Instead, he blew it by promising more spending and raising the stupid issue with public funding of religious schools. When you try to outlib the libs, you lose. There's a lesson here for the GOP. Be conservative or conservatives will stay at home. McGuinty Lite isn't the answer for Ontario and neither is Hillary Lite the answer for America.

Yes, indeed. Up in Sault Ste Marie, our local Liberal MPP has a massive page in the local rag. "Over $2.4 Billion in New Investments for Sault Ste Marie". Ok with me, he seems a decent sort of representative. We have splinter parties for wayward chaps like me though. A Family Coalition Party yet.
A cloud with a silver lining though. Stephen Harper of the ruling minority Conservatives of all Canada is seemingly doing it right. I pray his advisors take good notice of the trials of John Tory. Meanwhile talk has subsided of a fall Federal election.
Take your time Prime Minister.

The Family Coalition Party and the Ontario Freedom Party represent conservative philosophies. But they have yet to make real headway east of Manitoba.
