I find nothing identifying Bonnie as the driver (of course!), or any mention of auto insurance being in place. I’m sure the parents were covered by something, because they seem so conscientious, and able to go through all the hoops to qualify for other programs where someone pays the bill.

The closest the DBM will go to identifying the driver, that I've seen, is to call the vehicle "the family SUV."

I suppose that leaves room for a non-family member to have been driving it. (S'pose it COULD have been an uninsured illegal nanny driving the kids around in the "family SUV" --lots of hip urban parents hire nannies to do that. But nah, I think the driver was probably the mom.)

Don't know about "conscientious." Is it "conscientious" to own a lot of equity in both your residence and your commercial property, yet not buy health insurance for your kids? Isn't the premise of the whole story that they did not have health insurance?

There is another article listed I think in the original thread from Saturday or Sunday where Bonnie says she was the driver. At first from the description of the accident I thought it sounded like no seatbelts but there is another article on this thread which says the vehicle hit the tree and Gemma in the front seat was struck by that impact. The tree probably made a big dent into the side door which hit the child who was quite small at the time with a lot of force. Graeme in the backseat on the same side banged his head into the window with enough force to break it. I can see this happening even with a seatbelt. Also the vehicle was a SUV but we are never told what kind so we have no idea of how well made it may have been or how the height of the door window would compare to the height of the boy. As I’m typing this though, I’m wondering if most SUVs—a type of vehicle I don’t think I’ve ever ridden in, can seat a family of 6 when they are all using seatbelts or was this just a car for Mom and the kids and they had another one—like a van, for the whole family.
