Jacob had the misfortune to be driving home through Brownsville, Brooklyn, on June 22...............In July he underwent open-heart surgery.

Yeah.......coppers have a way of causing cardiac artery plaque buildup, right?

If so, there’d be a whole lot of twenty-somethings needing bypasses. This 50 y/o has been eating fat for a long time, and his bypass number came up.

CA-CHING.
CA-CHING.

The fact that he had a preexisting condition doesn't make it any less their fault for setting it off. The police should be in jail and the city needs to pay dearly for hiring assh*les for cops.

Maybe the stress of the assault had more to do with the heart attack than any medical condition you assume to have existed.
Have you seen the man’s medical records or are you just being a jerk?

Did you happen to notice that he only weighs 150 lbs?

Didn't think so...

You don't get it, do you?

Yes, the victim is responsible for the condition of his arteries. But that's always true, and has never prevented a conviction for murder when a criminal's actions are the proximate cause of a victim's heart attack. And cops, due to their position of power and responsibility, should be even more at risk than an ordinary citizen in that regard.

And then there's the failure to provide appropriate assistance to a citizen whose life was in danger. That's what cops are paid to do, and these cops didn't do their jobjs. For that alone, they should be fired. And if that's not enough, the innapropriate use of force should also be sufficient cause for termination.

I guess you missed the part where they said he was diagnosed with a heart attack following the event. Perhaps they should have tazed him as well as beating him up. At least the taze might have kept his heart going.

There's definitely some things missing in this article. Sure, being roughed up could cause a heart attack to happen a little sooner than it would have otherwise. And sure, the cops who did this (if it really happened as reported) should be disciplined or fired.

But there are some odd things in this article that make me wonder how accurate it really is. For example, when was the last time you read an article about cops gone wrong where the names of the officers were not given?

Are you suggesting deathly fright cannot cause a heart attack absent plaque build-up?

Nowhere in the article was it stated that Jacobs had arterial blockage; there are many causes of heart attacks brought on by stress that could require open-heart surgery to repair damage that resulted or an undetected underlying cause for arrhythmia.

Heart attacks from embolisms are generally of the drop-dead kind.

Are you a doctor? Or do you just play one on FR? The guy weighed 150 lbs. Hardly fat. Extreme Stress can cause heart failure even in otherwise healthy people. It is possible for some people to be frightened to death. I suppose you think it was just coincidence that he happened to suffer a heart attack just as he was being arrested?

sheesh... I have heard boot licking sycophants make ridiculous arguments defending indefensible behavior by LEO’s before, but you take the cake.

Are you reading imapired? If you had bothered to actually read the article before shooting off your big mouth, you would see he only weighs 150 lbs. The likelihood of his eating above normal amounts of dietary fat is exceedingly small.

It’s not that the cop caused the heart attack that people are upset about, it’s that she laughed at him and drove away without calling an ambulance or offering him a ride to the ER.

It’s entirely possible to wield AUTHORIT-EYE without being a jerk. There are good folks out there who do it every day. ;)

If this was not sarcasm it was stupidest post I have seen, on many levels. For one, heart disease is heart disease. Maybe this guy had a bad diet, maybe not. I have a great diet, very low cholesterol, and calcification of the aorta. Not from what I eat but from my heredity.

Secondly, the cops were inept, and the witness pointed it out. There is no evidence that he posed any threat or appeared to pose any threat to the 'coppers.' at anytime

Thirdly, for a cop to accuse someone with symptoms of physical distress (chest pains and coughing) of acting is beyond ineptness.

AHHHH finally! the fellow shows up to complain that the victim obviously had it coming- somehow. After all, the police wouldn’t have roughed him up if he weren’t somehow a bad guy or otherwise deserving.

Are you taking the side of the police in this? At the very least, those officers could have seen the man to a hospital to make certain he was alright. That would have been a legitimate public service not violating any regulations. They could have called the EMTs on the spot.

Had the man been merely acting, he could have been charged with interfering with police officers in the performance of their duties, and other such.

Regardless of how police officers are capable of making mistakes as are any other human beings, their training should have made room for this man to be checked out, since they discovered on the spot that the stop and rough handling was their error.

No, they just abandoned this man. NOT good public service.
