Every time I see one of these examples I have to ask what the founding fathers would have said regarding the extraordinary responsibilities that accompany the extraordinary powers given to the law enforcement officers. I consider the violation of a citizens right a more egregious act than taking a bribe. I do not advocate that being victimized by entitles anyone to a financial windfall at the expense of his fellow citizens, but I do advocate severe civil and criminal punishment for those in law enforcement who break the law and for those who select, train, and manage them.

They would have said what the law says today: if your rights have been violated by a law enforcement officer you have a right to swear out a criminal complaint and to file a civil suit.

Which is precisely what Mr. Jacobs is doing.
