Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

I really have no idea, as only God knows his heart, yet it sure sounds ~fishy~.

You know, all we can react to is what he says - in context, if we are lucky. Sometimes I hear something and I buy into it, only to find out later that I “heard” it from my perspective, not the perspective they were uttering from. Well, hopefully I’ve learned to be more circumspect in both what I say and how I hear.

But to say all religions pray to the same God . . . . that is an incredibly, astoundingly, and amazingly - dare I say it - STUPID thing to say - even if you believe it!!

“You quoted me out of context, a big no-no.”

For the record, the quote fully captured the essence of the longer statement and was not out of context, unless, and I don’t believe I’ve screwed this up, you do in fact believe in the trinity.

You’ll note that I wasn’t preaching, merely observing that saying that Jews don’t believe in the trinity means little (either way) since the trinity is a construct of Christian men, not God.

Yes the trinity is a subject of debate amongst Christians, but again, it is Theology, not scripture, and men argue about lots of things.

Therefore if you are debating Theology, “is not” does not meaningfully contradict 1500 years of intellectual ponderings.

The Holy Trinity does not compromise the oneness of God. The one God is three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three are God, not three parts of God.
The Incarnation means that the second person of the Holy Trinity, who is called the “Word” of God, became flesh (added our human nature to his divine nature) and was called Jesus.
“I and the Father are one” (John 10:30)

My God does not allow me to cut the heads off people why chanting his name.

It's been a long thread, so forgive me if someone else has already said it:

The Islam Allah is the Christian Satan.

Studying Islam has led me to that conclusion.

For supporting evidence, take a look at the predicted events occurring after the arrival of the 12th Imam (the Mahdi) and the eerie (scary) similarities to the events associated with the AntiChrist in Revelations.

I guess part of me thinks he does those things to show that, as a Christian, he is respectful, tolerant and open to other faiths- even though he (and we) know that they would never do the same. Could you imagine Akimanutjob hosting a Christmas celebration in Iran? But, maybe the point is to do the loving thing nonetheless. Still, all to one God... I am at a loss.

I take that to mean that He, as the Son of God, is of His father and His Father’s Word- not that they are the same. They are the same in the Word, but God is still the One above all.

If you are a christian you believe that Jesus is God, the son

Not ALL professing Christians believe this, some believe Jesus was the Son of God, ‘separate’ from the Father.
_______________________________________________________

Many people profess to be christians including mormons. Jesus is God and the son of God, part of the triune. This is a biblical and correct position.

I know how jealousy works,..kissee, kissee, slurp...

"Jesus was Jewish and I never said he wasn't. That doesn't make him what you say he was.

I agree that what I type doesn't make Him what I might think. I don't have that power, and that is blasphemous. God does, though, and with respect to the 'I AM', He Was, Is, and Is forever more. We agree like two peas in a pod on that one.

This is not to contrive argument, but to clarify my position which you might not understand from your choice of words. Jesus Christ is not merely Jewish in the past tense, He is Jewish, as He still exists, lives and is eternal. Don't take my word for it, take His MEMRA. Consider what has been said of Him:

By Paul, who was Saul the Pharisee, prior to being blinded on the road to Damascus (I wonder how many others in that neck of the woods might get blinded if they don't watch out) and later wrote in a letter to the Colossians while Paul was in captivity, under house arrest in Rome circa 60 AD.

I quote from his second chapter, which reveals volumes regarding the fullness of the Godhead He has provided and the holder of all wisdom and knowledge in the Father and the Son, as well as functions of His body, the church, and the gifts which ALL believers through faith in Christ today have been given. This passage goes further to discern how we are not to risk what he has given us by allowing other persons to deceive us, be they angels or men or persons.

Col 2:1-19

(1) For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

(2) That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love,(AGAPE) and unto all riches(PLOUTOS) of the full assurance(PLEROPHORIA) of understanding,(SUNESIS) to the acknowledgement of the mystery(MUSTERION) of God,(THEOS) and of the Father,(PATER) and of Christ;(CHRISTOS)

(3) In whom are hid(APOKRUPHOS) all the treasures(THESAUROS) of wisdom(SOPHIA) and knowledge.(GNOSIS)

(4) And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

(5) For though I be absent in the flesh,(SARX) yet am I with you in the spirit,(PNEUMA) joying and beholding your order(TAXIS), and the steadfastness of your faith(PISTIS) in Christ.

(6) As ye have therefore received(PARALAMBANO) Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

(7) Rooted and built up in him, and established(BEBAIOO) in the faith, as ye have been taught(DIDASKO), abounding therein with thanksgiving.(EUCHARISTIA)

(8) Beware lest any man(TIS) spoil(SULAGOGEO) you through philosophy and vain(KENOS) deceit,(APOTE) after the tradition(PARADOSIS) of men(ANTHROPOS), after the rudiments(STOICHEION) of the world(KOSMOS), and not after Christ.

(9) For in him dwelleth(KATOIKEO) all the fullness(PLEROMA) of the Godhead(THEOTES) bodily(SOMATIKOS).

(10) And ye are complete in him, which is the head(KEPHALE) of all principality(ARCHE) and power(EXOUSIA):

(11) In whom also ye are circumcised(PERITEMNO) with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body(SOMA) of the sins(HARMATIA) of the flesh(SARX) by the circumcision of Christ:(CHRISTOS)

(12) Buried with(SUNTHAPTO) him in baptism(BAPTISMO), wherein also ye are risen with(SUNEGIRO) him through the faith(PISTIS) of the operation(ENERGEIA) of God,(THEOS) who hath raised(EGIRO) him from the dead(NEKROS).

(13) And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together(SUZOOPOIEO) with him, having forgiven(CHARIZOMAI) you all trespasses;(PARAPTOMAH)

(14) Blotting out(EXALIPHO) the handwriting of ordinances(DOGMA) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross(STAUROS);

(15) And having spoiled(APEKDUOMAI) principalities(ARCHE) and powers,(EXOUSIA) he made a show(DEIGMATIZO) of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

(16) Let no man(TIS) therefore judge(KRINO) you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

(17) Which are a shadow(EKIA) of things to come;(MELLO) but the body(SOMA) is of Christ.

(18) Let no man beguile you of your reward(KATABRABEUO) in a voluntary humility and worshiping(THRESKEIA) of angels,(ANGELOS) intruding into those things which he hath not seen(HORAO), vainly(EIKE) puffed up(PHOOSIO) by his fleshly(SARX) mind(NOUS),

(19) And not holding the Head, from which all the body(SOMA) by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

PS, Don't think the way I think,..think the way He wants you to think, as He has provided an image by the Son, the MEMRA, the second person of the Godhead, whom is identified as Christ Jesus.

yet am I with you in the spirit,(PNEUMA)

I think PNEUMA means breath as well as spirit. Compare to God breathing the spirit into Adam.

If that is the case, and I'm pretty sure it is (any Greek speakers on this thread?), then this phrase means we are breathing together.

"Breathing together" is the literal meaning of the Latin phrase the English word conspiracy comes from. Con = with. Spire = to breathe.

This is proof positive that it's all a conspiracy

If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. John 12:47

If Jesus didn't judge us maybe we shouldn't judge others.

Suggestion N&V: I would refer to see Kant on the meaning of PNEUMA.

Jesus is the son of God, and persona Savior. He is the path to God.

You are right of course. To believe in some sort of three in one being is bizzare.

I’ve found it better to simply place what He reveals to us about Himself first, before our rationalizations of what He must be.

The Son is the image of the Father, one God, revealed to us in three persons. They have some interesting functional relationships.
