When I reflect on genuine leaders of the senate during the past half century, a few democrats come to mind. The one I'd been most impressed with(and disappointed with during his departure) was Daniel Moynihan. He had a command of world history which was amazing. He lived modestly and while I usually disagreed with his ideas applied to the mess which is contemporary America, we had much to gain from his wisdom in many other areas. Of course being an historian in modern society makes you wildly unpopular among circles of power and political elitists.

There is no historical record among the new modern democrats. They reboot the record and start anew every 24 hours.

I'm afraid you are right and I'm no admirer of Joe Biden. All I am saying is that intelligencewise, he is the most thoughtful of the current crop of Democrats running for the whitehouse. Yeah, I realize it is sort of like being the most virtuous whore in the cathouse.

Marcel Marceau of the Senate—what a great description of Tom Carper! Need I point out that he now has company from Pennsylvania's own Bob Casey, Jr.?
