I’ve found that the people who expend great amounts of energy proclaiming themselves to so Christian are often the same people who don’t seem to get it at all. It’s as if they’ve forgotten the story of the man who fasts, and declares to everyone that he’s fasting, versus the man who fasts in silence. They’re also often the same people who pass harsh judgements of others (particularly homosexuals), again missing a key tenant of their proclaimed faith. You can wear a giant cross on your neck or drive around with a fish on your car - it doesn’t mean you’ve grasped the religion at all.

I am NOT commenting on the Christian aspect of your observation, but there was a very good little book called "Winning Through Intimidation". (How many knew the author is Tom Cruise's father?)

Anyway, he says everyone is out to get what you have, but RUN from the guy in the big white hat who tells you he is the most honest man in the world and you can trust him as opposed to everyone else - that is the one who will really screw you.

Obama actually does fit that mold, because he is proclaiming himself a "true patriot" in fact such a true patriot he doesn't need to wear a flag, support the war, etc - IOW it's a cover for his being a weak patriot, at best.
