"So is the theft of a person's livelihood—which is what had just happened to the guy."

Sorry. I've known lots of folks who didn't get promotions, got fired, or even had to close doors on their own businesses that they started from scratch.

Suicide wouldn't have solved any of those issues.

Life can hurt sometimes. Things aren't always fair. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and find another way to make a living (people do this all the time, BTW). If you wanna shoot yourself don't make a roomfull of innocent people have to witness it.

Those people in that room were not innocent. Actions have consequences. Push a guy over the line, and you just might have to witness his suicide.

My sympathy is with the dead guy.

Suicide was not an irrational response. It was an emotional response. And so quite human.

The guy would have been better off to have started over. The city would be better off to start fully respecting property rights, and get rid of all its zoning laws.

I am impressed by your wonderful grasp of how life is and how well you’ve managed to conquer the ups and downs of life. I’m sure you’ve had to work very hard and spend lots of time getting to the place where your outlook and your handling of life is almot perfect. Perhaps now that you’ve gotten that part of life squared away so well you can devote a few minutes to develop a some understanding for those who weren’t gifted with your obviously near-superhuman ability to handle life.

Perhaps you’ve never had to endure the suicide of a loved one. I pray that if that’s why you have so little empathy for those who choose a permanent solution to a temporary problem that God will spare you the experience.

And perhaps you are indeed a caring individual who did not intend to come across as sounding flippant and judgmental. If so disregard those of us who find your attitude a bit lacking.

Actually, I'll turn that around. If you're going to take that drastic a final exit, then my kudos for a guy who will do it in a way that makes his political point.

They just got done ruining his life. He forced them to face that. They can live with the memory of seeing it happen. I think what he did was a dumb move but I despise this kind of local bureaucracy and their tin-pot dictator actions.

I agree with you, he could have appealed and if lost, sued and publicized this injustice nationally. Bo seems to have been somewhat of a local celebrity already. A lot of Americans are in debt way over there heads in business or personal matters and the banks have begun shutting down credit. My bank slammed the door in my face and reniged on an additional $100k line of credit increase, despite having $500k in collateral and management hitting all revenue benchmarks. Was it unfair? Hell yeah! I didn’t shoot myself because I knew that 60-70 work weeks were going to be required to fix this giant gaping hole in the business. He perhaps suffered untreated anxiety or depression.

The political climate stinks from the federal government all the way down to city government. From justice to commerce beurocrats have a written self-laws to do whatever they want, whenever they want. The decisions that are made in judgment always seem to favor the beurocrats position which accelerates promotion or windfall cash.

In dealing with the government today in America, it is all about who you know to get fair treatment (or unfair preferential treatment as is so often the case).
