Just being a parent is now sufficient grounds for being suspected of drunken, drug-abusing, kid-diddling criminal behavior.

Our pediatrician asked me once if we had any guns in the house, and I said no - they are all in the bunker. He has never asked anything about guns again. There will never be a time that either of our boys is alone with a doctor or nurse in that office.
There is a sign on the building right by the door that says concealed weapons of any kind are not allowed in the building. There are pamphlets on the dangers of guns in the lobby for parents to read. When we were going there frequently (well baby visits, ear infections, etc.) I used to take NRA coloring books and leave them on the kid's table and in the kid's reading rack.
Come to think of it, it's time to see what other Eddie Eagle stuff I can buy to drop off there next time we go! Tee hee.

This happened at my sons pediatrician when he was about 13 -14 or 4-5 years ago. I was in the bathroom and came back as the question about guns was asked.I came in and answered that it was none of their business and that we happened to believe in the 2nd amendment. I then said if they worried about safe storage that if we had any they were safely stored. Then the questions about using a helmet when riding a bike. My son answered that he sometimes wore one when his parents insisted. He said that it not the states business but the parents authority, whether to require that or not. Then the doctor said that if we knew about the head injuries we would change our minds. She went on and assumed that we agree with the seat belt laws.I answered that I thought it was better to wear a seat belt but that was my decision ,not the states. She went on about seeing the injuries. I countered by saying I inspected the wrecked cars and still do not agree about the law. Then I shut down the second hand smoke by saying she obviously had not read the study but the summary that was written by the advocates. That the study had no evidence of dangers from second hand smoke. Then I attacked about if we ruled against everything due to danger then we could not enjoy any sports. At that point, the doctor shut up and never tried to force their views on us.
I had been warned by another parent who was in the military and had a doctor grill her child about parents smoking and guns. The parent complained to the brass and had the doctor yanked from giving physicals of children.

If they spent less time doing social engineering and fishing for 'things', maybe some of the ones around here would have a prayer of being able to diagnose a hangnail.
As it is, I have no faith in the medical community.

I have real issues about lying and have raised my kids not to.
That said, when we’ve started reading about surveys and questions like this at the doctor’s office, I told them that I didn’t mind if they didn’t tell the truth; give them safe answers, no matter how confidential and anonymous it’s supposed to be. DO NOT divulge ANY information that could alert the authorities to anything.
Since the questionaires are nothing but information collecting devices and not really people, it doesn’t really matter.

First, there’s no reason for a 13 year old to be questioned privately by a pediatrician, as in this article. A parent should have been present.
About 5-6 years ago, the gun question came up during a pediatrician visit. I’d already been alerted to the issue from FR.
I told the doc that I didn’t think he was qualified by training or experience to advise us on firearms safety, and unless he could convince me otherwise (which he couldn’t, didn’t even try to do), that I saw the question as a professional boundary violation, which is a very serious thing.
He got a little huffy and told me it wasn’t, but he dropped the whole thing pretty much immediately.
There’s a nice questionnaire on this topic that the Second Amendment Sisters have. Here, found it:
http://www.2asisters.org/education/PhysicianAffidavit.pdf
Everyone who might be faced with a physician or educator asking nosy questions about firearms, should have that document handy, and have read it.

That is ridiculous! Kids aren’t always honest and they also aren’t mature enough to be reporting on their parent’s behavior. Also suggestive questions can lead to wrong answers. Plus I would think that it would be damaging to the child to introduce these types of subjects (weapons, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abuse) to young children who wouldn’t otherwise be doubtful of their parents. This sort of crap is very bad for the family IMHO, where alot depends on kids trusting their parents. This is mind-boggling and I can’t believe this would hold up in court.

Recently, Michael Medved had his teenage son on his show talking about his experience in the doctor’s office for some routine matter. The doctor (a female) asked him all sorts of questions about his sexual orientation and behavior, drug use, etc.

The med students who go into pediatrics tend to be women, and/or very liberal. Not surprised they are turning to the time honored tactics of the Nazi’s and Soviet’s of turning the “Children” into good little comrades.
