Some months ago, Savage talked about a nightmare he had that went something like this. Bush goes on prime time TV with a solemn tone and says that circumstances beyond our control have made a “transition of power” necessary, but outward appearances of government will go on as usual. He says goodnight and God bless, and the Chinese national anthem plays. That monologue has haunted me ever since.
