I was totally ignorant of that fact about SS—that it’s tied to wages rather then inflation.

That seems to me to be something that should be seriously considered as the alternatives will prove to be much harder to stomach.

This one is okay. It doesn’t seem that he expected to be videotaped. Regardless, I would have liked to hear him talk about the issue of baby boomers. We are going to have too many retirees to support for a long period of time. That’s what happens when you spend the money they paid in and expect a new generation to pay them back. It’s a pyramid scheme that eventually colapses. That’s what you get when those who run the program don’t have to think long term, rather they just have to worry about an election every two or six years. Government by its very nature is most unfit to control these sorts of things. Ah, but like so many things, once you start you are stuck. This should be exhibit A for why the government should stay out of the healthcare business.

I want to see a plan to allow private investments, similar to what Bush was proposing. To slowly kill off SS.

Why or what did you find humorous?

FYI Fred frequently speaks of the baby boomer issue on the campaign trail. I believe in some stops in Florida, and some in Iowa. I don’t have a specific link. If he said it at every campaign stop I wouldn’t be surprised but I don’t know that for sure.

I saw these on blogsforfredthompson.com over the past few weeks.

Not bad, really. Not bad at all.

Based on what I read in the NYT and WSJ reviews, I expected that he would fall asleep in the middle of the interview.

There goes Fred again, speaking knowledgably about the problem with SS, proposing (actually re-proposing) a solution while admitting it will be hard to pull off, lauding the Bush tax cuts for increasing growth and calling for fiscal discipline. And all in 2 minutes 38 seconds of candid interview. How can anyone take this guy seriously as a presidential candidate?

Anyone who has ever spoken to a print reporter or an editorial board can tell you that it is very different that speaking on camera. I think Fred did fine.

I really have nothing against Fred Thompson, but he comes off as very boring, he looks old and tired, and he didn’t do a very good job of explaining the issue.

And this is coming from a Ron Paul supporter.

I had to watch it twice. I fell asleep the first time. Good grief! This man does not have the elocution to stamp out Hillary’s tactic of heaping lies in a debate. No one would know what the man was talking about and certainly can’t be succinct.
