Atkins grand slam helps Rockies beat Red Sox

BOSTON (Reuters) - Garrett Atkins's grand slam home run helped the Colorado Rockies beat the Boston Red Sox 7-1 on Thursday, handing pitcher Josh Beckett his first loss of the season.

Atkins hit Beckett's fastball over the left field fence with the bases loaded in the third inning to give the Rockies a 5-0 lead in the interleague game. . .

Mike Holliday homered for the Rockies in the fourth to make it 6-0.

Both Atkins and Kazuo Matsui went 3-for-5 as the Rockies had 12 hits for the game.

Beckett (9-1) was tagged for 10 hits and six runs, all earned, before leaving after five innings. . . .

Mike Holliday? East cost media is clueless.
