Winning fan puts her colors on Jeff Gordon’s car at Talladega

The No. 24 Chevrolet of four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon, second in the Chase for the Nextel Cup championship, will have a little different look this week at Talladega Superspeedway.

Earlier this year, Gordon, together with Pepsi, asked for fan submissions of a paint-out design for the car that Gordon will drive in Sunday’s UAW-Ford 500.

The winner of the contest was Deborah Chastain of Thomasville, N.Y. Her design was chosen from thousands submitted online. NASCAR artist Sam Bass narrowed the submissions to five finalists and Gordon then chose the winner.

“You can’t imagine how exciting this is for a fan,” Chastain said. “I really enjoyed picking out the colors, designing the paint scheme and adding my version of Jeff’s flames to the car. I never dreamed that I would eventually see Jeff Gordon getting behind the wheel of something I had a hand in designing.”

Chastain and a guest will attend the race and meet Gordon on Sunday morning.

Yup. ‘Dega, COTPOS, collector plate, the Chase and possibly a bunch of foriegners (open wheelers) make it a crap shoot(IMHO)
Shame there’s no Busch race here this weekend. I’d like to have compared speeds between them and the COT on the superspeedway.

Who knows what could happen... it’s a 200 mph crap shoot at that. I just hope nobody gets hurt. At a minimum, I imagine we’ll see some new magic Nascar rules to enhance the experience.
