It's not really that easy to get banned, at least, not from what I have seen. I know people who've been disiplined with no warnings whatsoever. One friend was put under review, with no reason given, and no replies when he asked why. And then out of the blue was upgraded to banned.
It must be easier than you think.

Possibly. It's also human nature to want to keep mistakes private. Perhaps your friend chose to tell you only part of the truth.
