Back in the day the Bell system had a bug spray that killed all it came in contact with!

Also- a spray bottle with a heavy solution of water and dish washing detergent makes the little bastards fall right out of the air. They also cannot breathe with it on them.

Authorities said Hugh Williams sprayed insecticide in a hole next to the St. Andrews Road house on Sunday, but that didn't kill the bugs.

He then stuck paper in the hole and lit it, but the fire spread into the house and the attic, authorities said

Dear God that sounds like something I'd do!!!

I ran over a nest of those things with a lawnmower once. My wife described the scene: 'a blue and red streak across the yard.' Luckily I'm not allergic.

What gets me is this: he sprays the insecticide into the hole, lights it, and the fire spreads to the attic. How does the hole extend to the attic? Are their tunnels that extensive? Maybe the pentagon should hire them.

Any yellow jacket experts among freepers?

LoL

A guy did about the same some years ago in California. Poured gas in the gofer holes on his lawn, lit ‘em up and stood back smiling - heard a whummmph sound in back of him and turned to see his house go up

At least he doesn’t have to worry about the Yellow Jackets.

He's got that doesn't he. :)

Those look like wasps and I have lots of them. They supposedly attack harmful insects so I leave them alone until they start taking over the place.

Also, just take a mason jar, half filled with sugar water, and punch a hole in the lid about the size of a pencil, leaving the jagged metal pointing down. They go in, but have a hard time getting out past the sharp points, and drown.

Subprime mortgage market collapsing; foreclosures at record level...

hmmmm...that is not as improbable as it is disappointing.

I had a run-in with a wasp a couple of weeks ago.

I'd just flown across the country on a cramped red-eye flight. I got home shortly after dawn, and fell into bed, still clothed. An hour later, I was dreaming that something was irritating my chest. I scratched at it. It irritated me more. I scratched at it more. Then it HURT, and I woke up in 'what the heck is going on here' mode. I felt something inside my shirt. I fished it out. It was wasp pieces. Yup, he nailed me, center-chest. It itched like crazy for about a week.

The small ones in the ground? Took a half-dozen stings from those a couple of years ago. I'm lucky in that I don't react to those bites so it was just an annoyance.

You may find this funny, but someone here was giving just this advice to others, regarding filling those tunnels with explosive gas and throwing in a flame, to get rid of gophers.

A couple of readers promised to revert back to us, to inform us on the efficacy of the technique, after trying it out themselves. I wonder if they’ve checked back...
