American Muslims Strive to Become Model Citizens

After the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Muslim immigrants were seen as a potential threat in the United States. They have since become model citizens -- and now they want a greater say in politics. Why shouldn't we wear head scarves?

It is almost 1 p.m., time for noon prayers, and Abdul Malik Mujahid, 55, is in his office on the second floor of Chicago's Downtown Islamic Center, preparing for his sermon. On his desk are a Koran, a pad of paper and a Blackberry. A telephone rings in the next room as people hurry through the corridors.

Soon Mujahid takes the elevator to the fourth floor, carrying the text of his sermon under his arm. The 200 men waiting for him in the prayer room are dressed in jeans and in suits. They have slipped away from their offices for lunch, removed their shoes and staked out their spots on the carpet. Now they want to hear Mujahid's Friday sermon.

He nods to the congregation. Mujahid is a short, elegant man. His gray beard is carefully trimmed and he has a smooth voice. He turns toward Mecca and recites the Fatiha, the opening Sura in the Koran. Then he quickly gets to his point: "My brothers, we can all contribute to reducing our energy consumption," he says. "That must be your very own jihad, your fight against global warming." When he speaks he sounds like Al Gore, the former vice president of the United States and the man who is now leading America in the battle against climate change. "This wonderful country," says Mujahid, "depends on its immigrants. Show that you are good Americans and good Muslims."

Model citizens, strive to assimilate. They Learn the culture and the history of their new land, they show respect and allegiance.

So far the model muslims I come in contact with and see in media demand we conform to them:

1)Foot baths

2)Head scarfs and facial covering in photo id's

3)Isolated prayer rooms and breaks

4) Refusal to perform jobs because of pork, seeing eye dogs or suspicion of alcohol ( either consumption or possession)

5)attempts to bring sharia law to certain communities and areas

If they want to fix their public image, they are going to have to write a new koran, and invent a prophet who wasn't a mass murdering, baby raping pedophile, thief, and rapist.

1) either the reporter just made this up. or,
2) The sermon was for the reporter’s benefit with the real sermon delivered in arabic after the fool left.

This is just too happy-happy-joy-joy to be believed.

I meant it tongue-in-cheek and also as a matter of making my comments resonate
on its own merit above and beyond what they would do to us if only they had the chance. I am more than cognizant of the reality that these people will not consider themselves fulfilled until all infidels are either killed or converted, and the US government turned into a Caliphate of the West.

I (partially) disagree with this, if carried to its logical conclusion.

I am an individual, but I am also a member of my family and country. I choose to put the welfare of these entities above my own in certain circumstances.

Any society in which all members viewed themselves only as individuals could not survice for long, as none of those individuals would be willing to fight and die for the society, and it would be conquered by a society with less extreme individualist views.

Do they really support the concept of democracy, of religious tolerance towards others?

Democracy and religious tolerance are antithetical to Islam. Islam, with Shari'a law, is governance unto itself. All Muslims must strive via jihad to establish total Islamic belief in their community. Non muslims are infidels to be slain or subjugated; peaceful coexistence is NOT an option for a Kuran believing Muslim. Sunnis Muslims must slay Shiite Muslims, and vice versa, since the opposite members are heretics.

The patience of the Muslims is tempered by their escalating "reasonable" demands for capitulation, e.g., head scarves followed by full body and face burkas, elimination of pork products, foot baths, community calls to prayer over public address systems, and finally adoption of Shari'a.

Muslims do not adapt to the community. It is the Terminator Cult - you cannot use logic or reason with it, and it will not stop until you and your heathen culture are DEAD!

Also, while the United States has 300 million people, and 150-470 people out of a population of 300 million is tiny, you could also write that the Muslim population of the United States is around 3%, or about 9 million. So, using that, you could write 150-450 crimes out of a population of 9 million, which remains a minuscule amount, but not quite as small as writing 150-450 out of 300 million.

That logic makes no sense. Why only 9 million? The constituents of the group include those of the general population as well.

Overall, this hate-crime figure pales in comparison to what the Muslims have in store, and written in stone, in places where they have reproduced enough to become a majority.
