Kolbe to chair state's Canamex task force

Former Congressman Jim Kolbe was named by Gov. Janet Napoltano to head a task force working to get a NAFTA superhighway built from Mexico through the Southwest and Mountain West to Canada.

Kolbe, who retired at the end of last year, will chair the state’s Canamex Task Force. The Canamex highway is proposed to run from Guadalajara, Jalisco, to Edmonton, Alberta. Through Arizona it would use a combination of upgraded existing highways and new highways from Nogales to the Nevada state line, south of Las Vegas

Suggestion: Google Canamex. This has been going on for quite some time - right under our noses. Increment by increment. Look at the maps. A lot of people are going to lose their homes. 10,000 in the Tucson area alone.

Being on a trade route/supply line has two main advantages.
First, there is money to be made off of the movement of goods.
Second, development always occurs along the route/line.

Arizona, and the other states on the Canamex, want to compete. And they have plan.

Puerto Nuevo, the inland port in Tucson, will be the anchor of the plan. It will serve 3 Pacific ports.

1. Long Beach/Los Angeles Ports.
2. The Mexican port at Punta Colonet, Baja
3. The Mexican port at Guaymas, Sonora
