Suing the taxpayers for more than their legal costs is wrong

Au contraire , Mr Perspicacity. Taxpayers are voters, and all voters pay taxes either directly or indirectly. You vote for evil and you get caught, you pay the piper. A jury can award punitive costs and in this case, they will. Otherwise, these elected miscreants will pull the same thing again and again. You don't have to abide a corrupt local government; you can always move.

Taxpayers are voters,

Illegals pay taxes, like sales taxes, yet they are not voters.

Voters and Taxpayers are two distinct groups sharing many of the same members.

Those who elected Nifong are the proper target. Not going after the proper target, but a different target because it has deeper pockets, (and you can get away with it), is simply wrong.

I believe that voting is more than an opinion poll. It is a serious responsibility, and those who vote should be actually held responsible.

Sure the adults who went to Duke got a raw deal, from a corrupt liberal establishment, it is obvious. They should have settled for their legal costs and the destruction of Nifong. They went too far in seeking punitive damages from the wrong party.
