I think Karl actually was involved...making the bogus national guard letter himself at home during his spare time, and arranging for some Texas go-between to hand it off to some dimwit who offered it to CBS. Karl knew that Dan could not pass up this opportunity and take the bait. The eventual goal? To bring down the massive CBS news bureau, by arranging for Katie Couric to come in and be Dan’s eventual replacement. It was a devious plan...but it has apparently worked. Another secret agenda carried out by the mighty Karl.

It doesn't take much to create such poorly made counterfeit documents, as has been illustrated many times on FR. The true genius of Rove is revealed by the fact that Rove somehow KNEW that Rather would accept these phony documents at face value and forfeit his entire career in a hopeless effort to sell them to the public.

Just how did Rove know that Captain Dan was so ignorant and so arrogant? Who could have expected such a thing?
