WEDNESDAY brought two key developments in the 2008 race for the White House. Together, they make it increasingly likely we're finally going to see that Hillary-vs.-Rudy match-up we were denied in New York's 2000 Senate race.
First, Democratic candidates for president appeared in a debate in New Hampshire - and Sen. Hillary Clinton's rivals failed to act in any way to slow or derail the bullet train that is her bid for the party's nomination next year.
Yes, it's possible that Hillary won't be the Democratic nominee. It's also possible that "Good Luck Chuck" will win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
No one's cast a ballot yet in either contest. But it's extremely unlikely, to put it mildly, that "Good Luck Chuck" will be the "Crash" of 2007. And it's extremely unlikely that Hillary will be denied her party's nomination.
At this point, a little more than three months before voters show up in Iowa and New Hampshire, it's clear that none of Hillary's foes has the stomach to fight with her. Any that did would have been making a major issue on Wednesday out of her campaign's relationship with indicted mystery multimillionaire donor Norman Hsu.
-snip- Sorry. It's all but over for the Democrats.
That's not so on the Republican side - but Rudy Giuliani got very good news Wednesday: A new poll in New Hampshire has him one point off the lead. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney still tops the field with 25 percent, but Rudy is right there with him at 24 percent.

This is gonna be an ugly thread.
I’m going for popcorn
Rootie vs. Shrill? Who’s the third choice?
NH doesn’t matter any more. Some get the word late. My wife, who is from NH and was there just recently, says NH is now all Massachusetts imports.
Let Rudy and Romney battle over all the Dem states. Meanwhile Fred will sweep the GOP states. Game, set, match.
Super-Duper Tuesday will be an interesting day.
Fire away, y’all and I’ll try and hold down the crunching sound :)
I think they’re called Massholes by the natives!
This is the time for Rudy to run against Hillary. After the primaries, he will have to help Fred run against Hillary, and he needs the practice he didn’t get during his aborted Senate snafu.
I wish I could get paid big bucks to sit around and prognosticate. I can predict right now that the race will be Hillary vs. Thompson. And I’ll be right and I won’t get paid a penny, while J-Pod will get a paycheck for wrongly predicting that Rudy has a chance in hell of winning the GOP nod.
You won’t get paid for being right, either.
Life’s just unfair.
If Rudy is the GOP nominee, then the party will self destruct.
Let us not forget that Mr. Podhoretz wrote a book a year or so ago which basically postulated that the only candidate who could beat Hillary was Rudy.
So this may be a bit of a self-fulfilling wish on his part.
“If Rudy is the GOP nominee, then the party will self destruct.”
CORRECTION:
If Rudy is the GOP nominee, then the party will win the 2008 Election.
I thought we got rid of most of these idiots?

Wisc doesn’t need a voice! Not when it has UW @ Madison!!!!

Liberals are just salivating over the prospect of both the Demoncrats and the Republicans running liberal candidates. What could be sweeter to them? I, for one, do not intend to cooperate in this matter. Rudy deserves my vote just as much as Arnold did.
If most of the base will either stay home, or vote for a third party candidate, how will Rudy win the General Election? That makes no sense.
That's the reality. Deal with it.
