Freddie Mac has agreed to pay $50m to settle Securities and Exchange Commission charges that it concealed wide swings in earnings from 1998 to 2002.

Mr. Syron was elected Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Freddie Mac in December 2003.
