That's probably his best way out if this does become much of an issue. I do think the biggest problem is not his remark "they're all gonna be in prison, or dead" but in fact all the ridiculous leftist pandering, hyperventilating, and non-solutions that followed.

That's probably his best way out if this does become much of an issue. Given the favorable response of the crowd, I really do think that is what he meant, all along, no matter how bad it was answered.
