you answered every point - he kept dismissing any argument made by you or a caller
his entire argument was ‘what are you afraid of?’ - does he actually think calling someone a scardy cat is an argument? i liked that you explained that we have nothing to prove to the world - but the dictator does
since the event took place - does this change iran? does everyone on the planet love us now? did it satisfy jerry’s need to ‘feel good’ about the united states? are gays still being stoned in iran?
nothing changed - jerry got his feel good moment - not because the dictator was allowed to speak - but because he won - and it turned conventional wisdom on its head - jerry lives for that - consequences be damned
i did notice he tried to label you (subtly) as a bigot when you used the work ‘ilk’ - he sees that as a code word - and more importantly, a trigger to attack and scream racist
his tactics (not rebuttals or arguments) were to start rambling when confronted with a valid point and keep talking - and keep talking - and keep talking until the point is forgotten - then parrot his ‘what are you afraid of’ question again - WHEN YOU JUST ANSWERED HIM
he dismissed the point about the rotc by saying he fears legal problems with discrimination - he said the argument is not a valid comparison - it is valid - rotc is not there because columbia wants to bend over backwards (pardon the pun) to ‘show the world’ they love gays (kinda inconvenient that iran kills their gays though)
he used his rambling tactic when asked about the swift boat vets - he never would answer that - inconvenient event i guess
i judged you as the winner - not just because i agree with you philosophically, but because you did not use the tools he employs:
http://www.carm.org/apologetics/fallacies.htm
i wish we could have formal debates that are scored - might be that some of the answers to the questions are obvious but we cannot find them because people use (from the above link) ‘different kinds of logical fallacies that people make in presenting their positions’
anyway - i thought you did a great job - i’d like to hear more of you on the air
btw - there are two links on the page you posted - the second one is sylvie - for me to get the show, i had to click on the link, wait for the file (mp3) to download, copy it from the browser temporary file to my desktop - then open it with windows media player - if anyone else has a problem getting it
Hey Sloop!
Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to listen closely and for your commentary... I must say that working with Jerry for that hour was great in the sense that I did learn a lot about him and his tactics. Perhaps in the future, I will employ a harder methodology in getting my points across. Again, thanks for listening! (I can tell that you listened very carefully!)
I had tons of fun doing it...
