The amazing thing is that, several years ago, Peach Bottom was put on the NRC watch list because of instances where reactor operators (in the control room) were sleeping through their shifts.

However, the statements about a fire killing thousands of people is ridiculous hyperbole. Commercial nuclear facilities are not a soft target and, even if a group of terrorists took one over, causing a catastrophic accident would not be a simple thing. Methinks chemical facilities are a much softer (far less security) target where great harm could be initiated.

One of my ex-students got a job as a security guard for a nuclear installation in Colorado just after graduating from the university. He said he and his fellow guards, just sat around smoking dope, drinking beer and taking an occasional nap now and then.

That was 1973.
