all Americans were behind their president during WW2. Partly because we didn't have a 24 hour news cycle back then...and that was back in the good ol days, when the office and officeholder were paid respect.

turning out essentially en masse for bond-sales and morale building.

Apparently so. At least my parents and their families were supportive - and involved. However, I have heard accounts of a handful of people that didn’t want to get involved in “Europe’s War”, but then of
course Hitler ruined their plans when he declared war on us.
