I just labeled it “tedious” but I must admit that the little bomber sequence we just saw was pretty gripping. Those guys not wanting to get into those planes but doing it anyway...um...and some of those planes that got back with everybody on board shot up. Air guys dont get enough appreciation, I think.

we just saw was pretty gripping.

I'm aure some of the "homefront" sequences are slow-going for
many viewers.
But for those sections, I do think Burns has caught a lot of the
atmospherics of "that time, that place" in small towns.

It sure is consistent with what I heard from grandparents and
relatives (in rural Oklahoma/Kansas) when they told me their WWII-era
recollections.

Burns did have a good photo montage about the maximum-danger
days of American day bombings.

One complaint...any high-school kid watching wouldn't unreasonably
conclude that B-17 gunners never knocked down a German plane.
