So, where should I aim, if faced with an attacking Pit Bull dog?

I vote for the eye, angled toward the center. If it is still moving, shoot it in the other eye.

Avoid shooting an attacking animal in the head. It damages the brain, which might be needed later for a rabies test. Aim downward between the shoulders. Even if the shot does not disconnect the central nervous system (spinal cord) or penetrate to other vital organs, it probably will disrupt the animal's mobility.

I had occasion to do so to a large, rabid, attacking raccoon: his front legs spread out to the side, he went down, and never moved again...

Middle of the biggest part of the profile it gives you. The first priority is to hit it.

Remember, even though this guy didn't kill the dog, he walked away.

His mistake was not finishing the job with a second shot.

By the way, I wonder what kind of gun his wife carries now.

If you have the lead time the open mouth is not bad. At any angle it causes further damage.

Something that starts with a 4 helps.

If you’re a decent shot under pressure, between the shoulder blades if its head is down. The shot breaks the spine. It’s the same technique you use for charging bears, too. Their skulls are even harder than a dog’s.

Center-of-mass, with a flame-thrower.
