Unexploded Rocket-Propelled Grenade Impales Army Private in Afghanistan By RUTH REISS

[snip]

One RPG skidded past Lt. Mariani's vehicle. All of the vehicles had to quickly get out of the "kill zone." But before they could get to safety, two rockets hit Pvt. Moss' Humvee.

Staff Sgt. Eric Wynn, 33, the soldier in the front passenger seat, felt one slice through his face. Moss remembers the truck practically lift up. He was thrown up against the Humvee and then moved to return fire.

"I smelled something smoking and I looked down ... and I was smoking," he said.

Wynn turned to tell Moss where to fire and saw the tail fins of the RPG sticking out of Moss' side.

Roughly the length of a baseball bat, an RPG travels at the speed of a bullet. At the front end is the warhead -- a large grenade. The detonator and fuel are contained in the shaft. On the back are its fins, pieces of metal that stick out like legs on a camera tripod. The RPG is the weapon of choice for many of the world's guerillas.

Luckily for Moss, the company medic Spc. Jared Angell, 23, who the soldiers call "Doc," was in his Humvee

[snip]

A Human Bomb The RPG that had plowed into Moss' lower abdomen stretched from one hip to the other. If the RPG went off, it would kill everyone within 30 feet of him. Yet Angell stayed close, bandaging his wounds and stabilizing the weapon so that movement wouldn't cause it to explode.

Moss was still fully conscious, so Angell ordered him to not look down at the injury. He didn't want Moss to panic.

They want me to go with them to see the Dancing Fountains at Bellagio, and the Fremont Street Experience, but I don’t do so well at night.

All of which is Greek to me (my first & last visit to Vegas was sometime around 1982), but I'm glad you're back home and (hopefully) relaxing. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

LoM is off visiting an old friend with whom we'd become disconnected 15+ years ago, reconnected a few weeks back when we went to the State Fair and she was directing the groups in charge of parking.

I hate nausea....used to get it a lot when I got migraines before I had medication. I almost always had to hurl....so bad that I would dry heave for 5-10 minutes.

Hope you feel better.

I hate it too, but rarely was it associated with my migraines. But they just went away many years ago, and even headaches have been rare since.

The Bellagio is a high class casino with a hugh lake in front. In that lake are fountains that are lit up at night, and are synchronized to classical music.

(My preference is still the pirate fight at Treasure Island, where the captain goes down with the ship.)

The Fremont Street Experience took about four years to build. It’s a light-canopy that covers about four blocks of Fremont street, closing it to all but pedestrian traffic.

At night, the lights are prgrammed to show computer images that race up and down the canopy, from jet planes to dancers. At the east end of it is a two-block long Neon Museum.

It’s worth it to see it all, but only if you have lots of time.

And feel really good...

I never hurl, even with migraines. But I always feel like it’s just around the corner.

I never know how long it will last or how bad it will be.

*sigh*

My headaches have been tapering off over the years. And with medication, usually the worst I have to suffer is the blurred vision and sleepiness from the medicine.

Before I knew they were migraines, I called it the 4 hour flu, because it was about 4 hours from the time my vision blurred until the hurlage, which was every time. Makes me nauseous just thinking about it.

It's been a long time, but I don't think I went much over two hours.

It all went away about the time I got married, make of that whatever you will (married still to this most wonderful and intelligent woman).

I threw out my own meds, once. Too sick to realize it was the NEW bottle, not the old...I kept me, too!

There is precious little better on this Earth, to be sure.

I thought my migraines would go away with the onset of menopause, but it seems neither has happened. Go figger.

That’s about exactly what happened.

Of course whilst I was in bed writhing, she pulled double duty and got an emergency prescription from my doctor. Problem is, if I don’t get my medicine quickly after the headache starts, it does no good.

Her effort scored plenty of points with me though...

I’m glad y’all have such good wives. It makes me feel good to know there are still some good guys around that the good wives appreciate!

I know about that taking the meds quickly. If I can’t take them when the lights start, or the pain hits the back of my neck, they do no good.

Most of the time, I just go to bed.
