Schieffer asks yet another Iraq question. Do they need 100,000 troops and for how long?
Hillary: Says no at first, but... we’ll assess the situation and go from there, changes her answer to “I don’t know.”
Schieffer still stuck on Iraq. Hillary blames Bush for “emboldening the enemies” and says setting a timeline wouldn’t do that. She brings up Iran and Syria. Brings up a report of an Israeli attack on Syria (for some reason, I thought that story was disproven, but I could be wrong).
What should we do about N.Korea?
Hillary: We need control over what NK is doing. Six-party talks, etc. Blames Bush for supposedly letting up.
Nope! Confirmed by B. Netanyahu.
as Lucius Cornelius Sulla said in post 349, Netenyahu confirmed that a raid took place. There's a thread that includes several quotes from an article about it
The Whispers of War
Newsweek ^ | Dan Ephron and Mark Hosenball
Including this gem:
Israeli warplanes carried out a mysterious raid deep in Syria and then threw up a nearly impenetrable wall of silence around the operation. Last week opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu chipped away at that wall, saying Israel did in fact attack targets in Syrian territory. His top adviser, Mossad veteran Uzi Arad, told NEWSWEEK: "I do know what happened, and when it comes out it will stun everyone."
The article ties the strike in Syria to likely war with Iran.
In addition there's this post in that thread:
To: maquiladoraJohn Bolton, on FOX this A.M., seemed to think it was a strike in Syria on a NK nuc. facility. Since neither country had been complaining at the UN about the strike, this seems like a reasonable assumption. Hush, hush and all. They certainly wouldnt want the world to know what they were up to.

It is also worth noting that the rest of the Muslim governments appear to be refraining from any condemnation of Israel over the attack. Newsweek talks about this being part of a Cheney plot to provoke war, in effect saying that we gave Israel a "green light" for the attack in Syria. I find that non-reaction of the other governments in the ME to be a "green light" for Israel as well.
