Climate Change: Did NASA scientist James Hansen, the global warming alarmist in chief, once believe we were headed for . . . an ice age? An old Washington Post story indicates he did.
On July 9, 1971, the Post published a story headlined "U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming." It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man's use of fossil fuels.
The Post reported that Rasool, writing in Science, argued that in "the next 50 years" fine dust that humans discharge into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel will screen out so much of the sun's rays that the Earth's average temperature could fall by six degrees.

Yes and the most alarming thing to me are those who do not understand history well enough to understand that. They prove through their short sightedness that it is their politics and social goals not true imminent doom that drives them.
Aiding Rasool’s research, the Post reported, was a “computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen,” who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time.
So what about those greenhouse gases that man pumps into the skies? Weren’t they worried about them causing a greenhouse effect that would heat the planet, as Hansen, Al Gore and a host of others so fervently believe today?
“They found no need to worry about the carbon dioxide fuel-burning puts in the atmosphere,” the Post said in the story, which was spotted last week by Washington resident John Lockwood, who was doing research at the Library of Congress and alerted the Washington Times to his finding.
Hansen has some explaining to do. The public deserves to know how he was converted from an apparent believer in a coming ice age who had no worries about greenhouse gas emissions to a global warming fear monger.”

Expect Dr. Hansen’s retirement any time now. To be followed by his book tour and an appointment to Greenpeace.
In the 70’s, I read a book based on a declassified CIA report (was it...The Weather Conspiracy?) that detailed a scenario of strategic consequences following global climate change. Of course, at that time, it was assumed that we’d be experiencing global cooling. What was important, however, was the reports assertion that we were exiting one of the mildest climate “bubbles” in human history and returning to a less beneficial and more common natural climate.
Global warming as a function of human activity is BS...even if 18% of all CO2 greenhouse gases are derived from bovine flatulence.

The science is settled, I tell you!
Did Enron need him to shill for global cooling for some trading scheme they were cooking up?
But who the heck cares... Algore won an Oscar with his stupid, asinine movie! Sure hope Limbaugh gets that Nobel Peace Prize instead of Algore!!!
Did you see this?
“”They found no need to worry about the carbon dioxide fuel-burning puts in the atmosphere,” the Post said in the story, which was spotted last week by Washington resident John Lockwood, who was doing research at the Library of Congress and alerted the Washington Times to his finding.”
“the Post said in the story,” Emphasizing this is a 1971 story.
Well let’s see, 1971 + 50 = 2021. Fourteen more years before his prediction can be declared wrong.
Yes, but Hansen’s new grand unified theory of global climatology calls for global warming to cause the next ice age. No matter what happens, he’s right and we’re all at fault.
Isn’t science a wondeful gig? The best part is that once they start grabbing our bucks for remediation, they can take credit for preventing the next ice age—until it actually happens of course.
Yes, but the fact is if a guy gets it so wrong the first time, then says the exact opposite is going to happen for the same reasons, why the FORK should ANYONE LISTEN TO THE IDIOT EVER AGAIN????
He’s shown he is a terrible scientist, a terrible researcher, someone to NEVER use as a credible source for anything related to climate, EVER.
And in the 1980s it was ‘Nuclear Winter’ brought to you by Carl Sagan.
It’s the blame game ...
Blame Humans First.
Blame America First.
Blame Republicans First.
Blame Reagan/GHWB/GWBush First.
James Hansen is older than I thought if he was a scientist in 1971. You’d think he’d learned a few things in 36 years. Namely that no one can predict the weather. I learned that when I was in first grade.
This is from NASA, too. Continents Collide

Makes "Global Warming", "Global Cooling", and "Anthropogenic Climate Change" rather moot.
There was a great history channel show on, “The making of planet Earth”.
Needless to say, it presented the BIG picture.
And barely mentioned concerns for global warming, as another great ice age will inevitalbly come in thousands of years as so many cycles have before.
They also made the point we have been very lucky to have enjoyed a very long 10K year warm period, allowing the ascendency of humans.
Extending that warm period does nto sound like a bad idea when we are looking at glaciers burying Manhatten down the road. But man, thousands of years, people need to get a clue and quit panicing over doomsayers and Goracles.
No....thanks!
Sounds like Hansen is a well rounded guy, he'll write computer programs that prove anything you'd like.
Must be a very young IBD author on this article. Anyone who lived through the 1970s knows that Rachel Carson and the envirowackos were all predicting a frozen future for us.
