Good conduct medal are not awarded to officers.

The Good Conduct Medal is awarded to enlisted personnel for three years of active federal service, during which time the recipient has neither absconded with unit funds, attempted to seduce the commander’s wife, nor contracted more than the company average of venereal diseases.

That’s what the First Sergeant used to say, anyway.

Guess I should've spelled out /s/arcasm. I am fully aware that officers commissioned from the get-go are not awarded the coveted Good Conduct Medal.

I received the U.S. Army Air Corps GCM in the U.S. Air Force in 1963. At the time, the USAF still didn't have its own GCM, so they used the old Army one. Far be it for me to demean a fine soldier like General Petraeus.
