ST. GEORGE — A police officer who was recorded berating a motorist earlier this month has lost his job.

The board of aldermen voted 5-0, with one member absent, to fire Sgt. James Kuehnlein on Monday. The vote was cast in a session closed to the public and wasn't announced until Wednesday, when a notice was posted at the City Hall of this tiny south St. Louis County community.

In a video that got wide viewership on the Internet, Kuehnlein taunts and threatens motorist Brett Darrow, 20, sometimes shouting and using profanity, after questioning him in a commuter lot near Interstate 55. Darrow posted the footage of the Sept. 7 incident on the web.

This kid has recorded cops in the past and is known for it in the local area.

This cop has had major issues in the past and should not be a LEO anywhere.

Good cops have nothing to fear from cameras.

Do you honestly believe a twenty-year-old uses turn signals?

Maybe, maybe not. But the video clearly shows him driving responsibly, including the use of turn signals.

Every time I read this transcript I get angry at this cops intimidation tactics. He is in the wrong profession, in my humble opinion. I am glad he was fired.

Also, when I read the transcript, I can hear Jackie Gleason’s voice...

Keuhnlein's boss, St. George Chief of Police Scott Uhrig, had an unwelcome spotlight shone on his past as well. From the link in post #19:

Five years ago, an administrative commission upheld an accusation that Uhrig propositioned a 17-year-old girl for sex during a traffic stop in 2000, when he was an Arnold officer.

I say it’s a good thing the cop got fired. Another kings#$t cop that got caught. He was going to make up charges against this kid because he didn’t like the way the kid talked to him. Boo friggin hoo. He has no business wearing a badge. Just another power mad jerk.

The cop acted exactly the way I would expect any cop to act when spoken to that way. The problem is, the camera was rolling -- probably another YouTube fame seeker. Because it's now public, I agree that the cop needs to be fired.

So you expect a cop to act in a way that merits firing any time someone asserts their constitutional rights?

"If you watch the video your question will be answered."

I should have said, "Do you honestly believe a twenty-year-old normally uses turn signals?

My point being that he was setting up the cop. Do you think most twenty-year-olds would pull into a vacant parking lot at 2am and start mouthing off to a veteran St. Louis cop?

Officer #1: What are you doin’ with a camera hooked to your car seat?

Too funny.

This LEO was an idiot with a heavy badge. He needed to go bye bye in the worst way.

I would be interested in seeing where this rogue street reporter is in five years. Real interested.

The cop was doing his job. The kid got an attitude. The cop acted exactly the way I would expect any cop to act when spoken to that way.

Uh, no he wasn't. This guy was totally unprofessional, and knew damn well his tit got caught in the ringer. Regardless of what camera boy did, this cop needed to go apply for another job, one that does include power or control over others.

If police A) weeded out these guys on their own and B) cut down on speeding enforcement-for-revenue, the general populace would have a lot more respect for police.

Officer #1: It’s to a secret link. I told him about our cameras too and our body mics.

I fell out of my chair when I read this.

Just hysterical...

Probably the same way you would expect a big-city veteran cop to say nothing to a punk mouthing off.

Who's the naive one here?

perhaps the cop went to far but it seems to me the kid was being a bit antagonistic in questioning the officers request for ID. He seems to think that just because he was parked in a commuter lot he is absolved from being questioned for suspicious behavior. That’s patently ridiculous and coupled with the fact he had a dash camera running seems to me to be a set up designed to snare a cop.

This kid had previously complained he was unfairly ticketed and went to court over it but lost. This could be nothing more then his lame attempt at a pay back. The problem is if this kid is from the area he now has a huge bullseye on his back.

My guess is he will deeply regret this. He may have won the battle but I believe he will soon find he lost the war.

So you think it's OK for the cop to make up a raft of fake charges for the "crime" of mouthing off to the cop?

My point being that he was setting up the cop. Do you think most twenty-year-olds would pull into a vacant parking lot at 2am and start mouthing off to a veteran St. Louis cop?

I guess turnabout is fair play. Cops use these tactics regularly. Why shouldn't a citizen use them to expose blatant corruption in the police? If the cop was doing nothing wrong, he would have nothing to fear.

To the contrary. The officer set himself up but good. He even got taped saying he could falsify any charge he felt like and on top of it the officers own tape is missing from his vehicle. Yeah the kid really set him up good. /s

On a side note I guess all the traffic in the background is people setting up police at 2:00AM.
