Newly released photos of SS officers sitting in canvas chairs, participating in sing-alongs and enjoying their free time at a recreation home near Auschwitz have shocked many in Germany this week.

Oh, and BTW, whatever the Nazis were able to do in Europe by way of “conquest”, if you think that they could have been successful in conquering America, once our Generals
“surrendered”, then you are seriously deluded. Just as seriously deluded for thinking our Generals would ever have surrendered in the first place.
How, pray tell, could Germany have “established” itself as the new ruler of America, even with the “mighty” German-American Bund licking their lips in the wings?
It would have been the American Revolution all over again, but with a million times more Patriots than Loyalists.
Don’t forget the traditions we have in this country.
Are you FROM this country, by the way?? I don’t see how you could be , and make an entirely “academic” statement like that/
Sand in your shorts?
The Germans could not have conquered the US in the 1940s, not without nukes.
However, give them complete control of the military/industrial capacity and manpower of all Europe and eastern USSR (under new and much more efficient management) and the oil of the Middle East, and they would certainly have had the ability to massively outproduce us militarily, probably by several times over.
By the mid '50s they could have had a fleet outnumbering ours by several times, and a proportionately even larger army. While we would have no "solid aircraft carrier" of Britain to use in an attack, they would have all the tinpot dictators of Latin America eager to join the winning side.
In the long run, if Nazi Germany had defeated Britain and Russia and consolidated its power, we would not be able to compete using conventional means.
Pitch in the A-bomb and the picture changes. But if we're playing "what if," there's no reason the Germans can't get the Bomb first, in which case the US is toast.
Are you FROM this country, by the way?? I dont see how you could be , and make an entirely academic statement like that.
At least five generations on my father's side and more than that on my mother's, but we lost track of them.
I don't get your point. I don't think America has been utterly invincible throughout its history, therefore I can't be a real American? That type of thinking is hogwash, and leads people into thinking preparedness and pre-emptive attacks are never necessary, that we will forever and always have the option of letting the rest of the world go to hell, knowing that America cannot ever be defeated, because we have "traditions."
I would hope that Americans would never have surrendered to Hitler, come what may, but that doesn't mean we couldn't be defeated and every last one killed. Guerrilla warfare is very nearly useless against an army willing to use Roman/Mongol/Nazi methods to put it down. The only area in which guerrilla warfare was militarily effective in Occupied Europe was Yugoslavia, which had special circumstances making it possible. And even there they did not seriously impede the German war effort in general.
The Good Guys don't always win.
